Re: Special Weapon with BestBuy preorder
I can't wait until they implement the in-game weapon purchasing system! I will be right in line with my credit card, buying whatever it takes to give me an advantage!
I sense that my connection with EA's vision is ending at BF2.

lol, Funny. I was thinking exactly the same thing. Buy the game for $50 and for another $30 get all the unlocks, 3 months later add a booster pack. A year later kill the game and come up with a new one. Rinse and repeat.

Re: Special Weapon with BestBuy preorder
I think some are blowing this out of proportion. Pre-order is nice for people who know they will buy the game anyway - why not get a little incentive to gurantee the company you will buy the game? This particular reward is simply a different model of the infantry rifle. the characteristics aren't different. Now I'm not saying I know they will have this game completely balanced but this particular weapon should not be an issue.
Furthermore, on the subject of balancing, you know what guys? Based on my observations and the interviews it looks like EA really is making an honest attempt at balance. I don't like to hear people say stuff like " Oh i know with unlocks this game will be completely screwed up balance wise." Two things: first, none of us completely know how the finished product will play out. Second, remember these are video games we are talkign about. There is no such thing as a perfectly balanced multiplayer video-game.
I'm not saying there aren't things that can completely ruin a game - because there are. All I'm saying is that lets see what happens with the rankings, unlocks, etc in a TG environment before we all start complaining.
I personally will be buying this game no matter what so pre-order makes sense to me. The closest place for me is Bestbuy and I think it will be cool to have a weapon that maybe only 10-20% of people at most will have - especially if it is exactly the same characteristics wise as everyone else has.

Re: Special Weapon with BestBuy preorder
So, if you think "none of us completely know how the finished product will play out" why do you then think that "this particular reward is simply a different model of infantry rifle [-] the characteristics aren't different"? That is, if you think none of us know what the final release will look like, why do you think that you know something about it?
Why do you think the weapon will be balanced? I take it, although no one else here knows what the weapon characteristics will be like, we know from EAs history that special unlocked weapons are more powerful. We know this from bf2. Now, maybe EA has changed its ways. We know that's unlikely given EAs history in other games. But, possibly it has. Now, since we have no other information, we make some educated guess. The educated guess is that this weapon will be more powerful than the standard weapons. That's how EA likes to promote their games. That's their marketing strategy.
What in the world makes you think that a special weapon gotten only through pre-oder will have the same characteristics as the standard infantry rifle? From EAs perspective, what incentive does this provide the masses to rush out and pre-order? Not much, says I. Not everyone is as level-headed as you are to think a weapon is cool just because it looks different and is accessible only to a smaller population while having the exact same characteristics as more universally accessible weapons. I say, most people aren't like that.
Let's review. You made two statements, they are jointly self-defeating. You say that nobody knows what the game will be like, then you make a claim about what the game will be like. Second, I do think we know what the game will be like. We may be wrong in the end. But, we all have justified beliefs about things in the future which are - if they are indeed true - peices of knowledge. I say, we do know what the game will be like. We know this just as we know the sun will rise tomorrow - even if, possibly, the sun suddenly explodes tonight. We know the weapons in this game will not be balanced, and we know that special weapons - like the reward that comes with pre-ordring - will be more powerful than their standard counterparts.

Wait a sec man...I made those comments because it really DOES have the same characteristics as the other rifle. I thought thats what I read from EA. I was not making an assumption. Can we get a confirmation?

How did I claim I knew what the game would be like? I do not understand your analogy. We don't know for sure if the other weapons will be over-powered. I agree with you that the unlocks will probably be more powerful but the unlocks are available to both sides. And Again with this exclusive weapon I am pretty sure EA is releasing it as just an alternative model to the regular assault rifle.
Can we get someone to confirm this? I do not think it is simply a "pay real money for a better in game weapon" sort of deal. Hence my original post about how I thought this was overblown.

Re: Special Weapon with BestBuy preorder
guys...ive gotten 2 supposedly "better" guns so far in the beta. They are pretty much the same as the default in terms of stopping power if not worse. I know that the support HMG is horribly inaccurate and the default is usually better. Same with the assault unlock (the heavy variant anyways).
So, if they keep the guns the way they are in the beta, i wouldnt worry about people having supposedly "better" guns, when youll have a good one to start out with

Re: Special Weapon with BestBuy preorder
Yep, I've unlocked everything for the assualt. The default assault. The default for EU is the scar11, and krylov for the PAC. They both have 30 rounds in the clip. Now when you unlock the heavy assualt rifle, the Baur, it has 20 rounds in the clip, its a little more powerful than the defualt scar/krylov but has less ammunition. Now the Voss light assualt rifle has 40 rounds, no explaination needed. Its already been stated this "special weapon" is just reskinned model of the scar11. It only looks different. There doesn't need to be anymore discussion on if its more powerful/unbalanced. Its the same. Just looks different.

Re: Special Weapon with BestBuy preorder
Not that I'm contesting it (it makes perfect sense that the preorder gun would just be a vanity item, like the things you get in World of Warcraft for ordering the Collector's Edition), but where did you see it's just a reskinned SCAR?

I think the special weapon should be a BFG.

Sounds like it wont be long off. I think Ill pass with 2142. Even the current Beta they managed to break more inorder to fix less. Now they are giving away a weapon to those who pre-order... it sounds like they are pulling out all the stops to make people spend the money before the reviewers get their word on it.
No, I'm done. No 2142 for this canuck. I had my fill with bf2. I have a feeling this one will just disappoint me like bf2 did, if not moreso.

Re: Special Weapon with BestBuy preorder
After the disappointing playability of RO (which i pre-ordered), I'm no longer gonna pre-order games... no point IMO.
