    Special Weapon with BestBuy preorder

    http://battlefield.ea.com/battlefiel...42/weapon.aspx

The Bofors Defence machine gun is an exclusive reward for pre-ordering Battlefield 2142™ from Best Buy in North America or Future Shop in Canada. As Battlefield gamers can attest, unlocks are one of the most appealing aspects of the franchise - it's all about getting the points you need to unlock all of the best weapons. However, no amount of points will ever get you this weapon, so if you haven't pre-ordered yet, find out more here www.bestbuy.com.

I already hate the ranking/unlock system. Quake Wars where are you?

I love the ranking system. I may pre-order this. I'd rather have that weapon.

First they pull this with the beta, now they make more money off of this preorder? I have no doubt that they will not allow global unlocks.

ranking system gives you more incentive to play IMO. I love teamwork, dont get me wrong, but i still dont understand why you cant have both. I love seeing a progress as i play and at least something to show for the countless hours i spend playing the game, RPG style.

That said, unfortunately i already ordered from EB. Ill have to stick with my GANS HMG

This seems a bad idea to me, it's onlt avaliable to North America / Canada, so it's impossible to get it anywhere else.

Not that I care, I'm not particularly interested in unlocking guns.

I've planned on pre-ordering so this will seal the deal. I suppose the debate on unlocks will never end. I'd agree with Snail that team play and unlocks can coexist.

Teamwork and unlocks can work together but this stinks. If a weapon can't be had by every player then it shouldn't be offered at all. Best Buy is hopping in bed with EA/DICE and the gaming community is getting screwed!

I strongly disagree with the unlock system in general and this type of "bonus" in specific. That is probably why I won't play 2142 much if at all. Why should I get penalized because I don't have as much time to play as some people do?

The time for calm and rational discussion has passed. Now is the time for senseless bickering.

Bonuses are nice but... Battlefield requires a delicate balance of the weapons. EA's claim that the BF2 unlocks were "different" but not better is wrong. Even the default weapons are unbalanced. The Chinese faction has weapons without scopes or require extra time to switch to.

TG might have to get a ranked server just to be able to play with unlocks. Some of the unlocks are crucial to a good team based game. At this point, it makes it unreasonable to try running an unranked server. Nobody will want to play on unranked because they don't get points towards necessary unlocks.

Re: Special Weapon with BestBuy preorder

I don't think the argument was that teamwork and the ranking and unlock system are mutually exclusive. Nobody said that. If somebody said that, then they were being foolish. It's clear that one does not necessitate the absence of the other. But, to shove this conclusion in the mouths of those who dislike the ranking sytem would be the strawman fallacy. That's the fallacy of attributing an absurd position to your dialectic opponent and thus concluding that he or she is wrong.

No, nobody with the least bit of intelligence has made that argument. That argument that's been made, and seems plausible to me given all the empirical evidence we have, is that a ranking system is detrimental to teamwork. To say that one thing is detrimental to another is not to say they are incompatible. Eating lots of sweets is detrimental to cavity-free teeth, but it's possible that one can eat lots of sweets and be cavity free. What we've seen is that on ranked servers, there is little if any teamwork. Why is this? The plausible hypothesis is that many players are just concerned with getting their points and not with working as a team. Again, let me pound this in: that's not to say that teamwork and getting points are incompatible. That's not to say one cannot do both at the same time. But, if you are primarily concerned with your points, then sitting back on defense with your squad protecting a back base isn't the best way to get them.

It's not just that the hypothesis is plausible. It's that we have a good amount of evidence that this is the case. Look on any ranked pub server. They're a mess to say the least. Yes, it's true there's some amount of teamwork on them. Some have more than others. But, let me repeat again, nobody ever said that it is impossible for teamwork to coexist with a ranking system.

So, while you guys don't understand why teamwork and a ranking system cannot coexist, so does everyone else. What others have said is that a ranking system is detrimental to teamwork. Let's be crystal clear about this. That's not to say any individual player cannot like both teamwork and a ranking system. That's not to say a community cannot like both teamwork and a ranking system. That's not to say a group of people cannot have a round with both teamwork and a ranking system. That is to say, in general, a ranking system will influence players to be more concerned with their own points rather than team work. This is just a specific example of the plausible general principle that people are interested more so in their own goals rather than in group goals. That's how people are. There's nothing right or wrong about that. A ranking system generally measures personal goals while teamwork is a measure of group goals. So, a ranking system pits the two against each other, in general. One more time: that's not to say the two are mutually exclusive or incompatible or contradictory. Nobody said that.

Re: Special Weapon with BestBuy preorder

take WoW for example - When you start out, you arent as powerful as the lvl 60 players are you? And it takes 300+ hrs to get there. But there are tons of TGers that play it.

And i think ive played maybe 4 or 5 hours if that, and got 7 unlocks already. Its really not that hard to get your first 20 or so unlocks. Think of how much you played BF2. Cmon now.

EDIT - Sordavie uses too many big words

The gun looks wimpy. Either way you'll probably be able to just pick up the kit from some dead chump if you want it that badly.

There is another pre order for euros, offering a different model. I don't have the link currently. This weapon is exactly the same as the scar, its just modeled differently. Its stats are exactly the same. It only looks different.

I feel a little sick whenever I read that sentence.
