Re: Thoughts on BF2142
You have to realize you're talking about EA here. This isn't a mod, this isn't even an expansion, this is an entirely new game. Take that into concideration and then think about how long BF2 has been out, and how much time the dev's have actually put into this game.
Chances are, they were given an order to make a new game that'll make them another million bucks, and they took BF2 and slapped on some new skins and said, "Here ya go, and in 3 months time too! We're so pro."
So now, you're all not liking the game, but it's where the BF2 population is going, just like with BF2 and it's expansions when everyone went out and crapped themselves over getting them, so all of the players of the game itself are all playing BF2142 now because it's the "hip, new thing", and BF2, the game that started the entire thing and got you hooked to begin with, is left behind to rot.
BF2 is where the glory is. BF2 was the shining moment, and it always will be. Mods are great (PoE2, etc) but when you divide your gaming empire across several different expansions and expect the world to keep up, you're screwing yourself and the players.
I'm installing the demo now, but ONLY because I like futuristic gameplay. I boycott any of the expansions and this game especially because they're just throwing garbage at you (that PEOPLE CAN MOD THEMSELVES FOR FREE) to make money.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
I remember my first online BF2 round on a pubbie: Oman with air. Had I used this as a reference, I would have had a very different opinion of BF2 (man that was brutal and gamey to say the least). Obviously, BF2 has matured, POE2, PRMM, and TACMOD have added to the immersion. We can certainly expect EA/DICE will adjust weapon damage and other parameters as time goes by, but the fact remains this is set in the future;
I played a few rounds last night (with TFKD SL'ing), and I agree this map is vehicle heavy* and I felt I was on another planet. I'll be playing this game for sure, and I hope the other maps have a more realistic feel. But, 2142 won't kill BF2 for me.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
I played both the 2142 demo and POE last night and so far I'm not impressed with the demo. I was glad to find the TG POE server full. I agree with the opinion that it is too arcade-like and you don't get the feeling of teamwork that you do in BF2. Maybe that will change as I play it more, but I hate to see people pulled away from BF2 vanilla and POE.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
I played a bit more this morning and I guess that's why I'm not liking it, too arcade-like. I think the pace is what is ruining it for me. If the pace could be slowed to half of what it is right now so there would be an advantage to tactical movement and things could be coordinated a bit more, I might be able to get into it.
It would be interesting to password one of the demo servers in the next week and get a decent number of TG people on and see what it feels like.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
I like this game a lot.
For BF2 is an old game. I played it, it entertained me for a long time, now I cannot sit down and play it for longer than 15 minutes because it has gotten to the point of being so old I get bored.
Every game will stop getting your attention sometime or other right? BF2 did its job and a damn well one while it was at it.
BF2 has been with us for a long long time. It has matured and it has been modded to a point where none of you remember the arcady feeling of BF2.
This map: is just a demo. I don't know why EA chose it, may be because it is pretty intense. But I am hoping there are bigger and more slow paced maps in the retail version.
We definetely need a little more resources for our Titan server. Titan gamemode seem to require more resources. Lag inside the Titan is caused by moving the titan... hopefully they will figure out a way to solve it... till then we avoid moving a titan after its shiled is down.
I will be playing this game, it is my new shooter for a while.Last edited by |TG| B; 10-07-2006 at 11:09 AM.

Fun, fun and more fun. But do not be selfish. Provide some fun and you will receive some fun.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
One thing to take into consideration is the lack of unlocks. The vehicles seemed to dominate beta in the first few days, but very quickly infantry gained unlocks that allowed them to deal with the vehicles pretty evenly.
This game isn't BF2. I really think you have to approach it as a pay for mod with a new game type and new skins and weapons. If you think of it that way I think you will be happy with the time you spend in-game.
The pacing is very fast, something almost all of us noticed right away. It may or may not slow down if TG is running the server or with unlocks. The pacing is my highest concern for the game atm.|TG-12th| SHINER

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
I wasn't pleased at all. It was very difficult to try and lead a squad, as they took out almost all of the commands and the attack/defend symbols were chosen automatically depending on the location you were pointing at. I wasn't impressed with the kits either, they all felt really arcadey and silly. The jet/helo was also another joke for me, as they were really easy to fly and still buggy. I would be glad to stick with PoE2, as that is real teamplay. Mabey over time the pubbies will die down and we can get some real teamplay going in a 2142 game, but last night was just an experimentation night, not to mention all of the drops from the server.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
Maybe it's just me this morning but I can't seem to get a kill for the life of me. My gun as assault NEVER seems to be still, it's always wiggling all over the place so I have no accuracy at all. Maybe my video card just can't handle 2142? I run fine in BF2. I guess it's either that or 2142 is a resource hog and the server is just lagging a bit, although that usually isn't the case.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
The wiggiling is not by accident, they put it in there. I hate it on the recon gun because you are prone and the gun is resting on the ground, but it's still moving all over the place and it takes some getting used to. I also found out that the recon pistol is an equal match against the automatic guns. It takes like 5 or 4 shots to kill with it.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
Did anyone ever play Command & Conquer Renegade? I thought I was playing a modded version of this game. The guns and vehicles handle the same. My graphics card really has alot of trouble on this game. I can only get like 25 FPS when nothing is happening and like 15 in combat. On the titan I am just inoperable. I suppose that is not the game developers fault though. Can't expect to get away with an ATI Radeon X300 forever.
The only thing I liked about this game was the car/fast attack vehicle. The turbo is so cool. I might buy the game just so I can drive around in it. Sorry for backing over you at like 1000mph jaymind

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
Hmm, all these posts about the pace make me realise what it is I've been trying to put my finger on about BF2142 . . . it's not much more than a rehash of UT2k4's Onslaught mode.
I'm sure the unlocks will help some though as the kits seem woefully limited right now, and I'd like to try conquest as I've only done Titan so far, but so far I'm unimpressed.2142: |TG-Irr| Silverfish

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
the conquest server games last almost the full 60 minutes. Some of the games actuall was stopped by the timer and not tickets...i was able to get almost 100 points one round. Having a good squad also helps those points as you get more for following orders.
Vehicles are powerful now, yes, but as Shiner said, once people start getting unlocks, you can take em down fairly easily. (Can anyone say cloak & C7??)
As for the pacing, i think its great. I love fast action games and theres always something to do. Itll slow down once everyone gets used to it, starts unlocking stuff, and more TGers play it. Im all for having one of them passworded maybe for a night. Then well actually see people defending instead of the one or 2 TG squads lol.
Also, i love the new titan mode, but i found i still love conquest more. Maybe cuz the rounds were longer or just cuz im more familiar with it, but either way is good for me.
Sounds are awesome, gun models are sweet as hell, explosions are amazing (ill never get tired of blowing crap up in this game). I kill people with 3 or 4 shots with assault. No problem killin people. Squad play will come with time...GIVE IT TIME. Its only been ONE day of a DEMO that doesnt have unlocks and is only one map. Sheesh lol. Play some more, ill be on today SLing if anyone needs some pointers or whatev.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
The strange thing about this demo is it seems that the overall game play is faster, which most everyone has mentioned but the player movement seems sluggish. It seems to take FOREVER to get anywhere if you have no transportation. Even in Titan mode seems to take a long time to get to the reactor core.
