Re: Thoughts on BF2142
Umm. I dunno. Feels like someone modded bf2 into UT2004. Runs smoother and faster than bf2 though. Someone in the forum, maybe yer mom, said something about how EA is totally effing up the player base by shifting people from product to product, and I concurr. It's hard to keep up, and is just annoying to buy stupid lame booster packs/x-packs. I still think the best overall experience is bf2 TACMOD, but I haven't tried PoE yet. Apparently you guys like that mod.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
Yeah after playing POE2 for quite awhile.. I joined a TacMod night recently. The server wasn't full but it was sooooooooooooooo refreshing. I just felt at home

BTW I'm changing what I said about some of the vehicles in 2142.. the tanks are different, didn't realise I kept playing the same side each time. But other than that... pfffft...
Was playing in B's squad earlier.. much better experience overall but I'm still not overly impressed.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
I was in the 2142 beta, and can attest that this game is much worse than what we saw back in September. The server lag is outrageously worse, walking and running speeds have been severely retarted, and it's obvious that EA has nerfed every kit's weapon: Assault is wildly inaccurate, AT rockets are extremely weak, ditto for support - even the pistol has been rendered useless. The beta offered much better weapons configuration and performance. The Titan concept is great, but this whole game has been ruined by EA's 'tweaking'.
I hate to say it, but the madness ends here for me - I'm not buying another EA game ever again, starting with this one. Good luck...

Anyone know any way I can cancel a preorder made via the EA Downloader?

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
The lag in Titan mode is just plain unacceptable. If the mode doesn't function properly, don't even bother releasing it.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
Feels like a new game to me. I don't see how it even looks reskinned. I like it. Its new, bf2 is played out and boring. Out with the old in with the new for me.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
The demo is very poorly executed. They've given us is all the things that were extremly unpopular in BF2 like inacurate weapons and lag issues while removing a ton of the features that made up for it like C4, shock paddles, land mines, etc. The only thing they have going for it is the Titan (which is a very cool asset when used properly) but that thing is almost unplayable because of the lag.
I guess the game might have potential but how could you tell? The way this is all running I'm not feeling too much faith in what might come. This is so bad it could almost be a promotion for Quake Wars.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
BF2142 has potential, but as is, I think it's a disappointment (whether you predicted it or not). First, I have to say that we need to remember it's a demo (although those of you make a good point when you say it doesn't hold a candle to the BF2 demo) and it isn't going to be the whole picture. Most of all, the upgrade system is getting even more MMO like; I don't want that. Many of you will disagree with me, but I feel that in an FPS you shouldn't have to work to get the weapons, but you should work to become better at the game. To be more specific as to what I don't like, the guns have NO stopping power or accuracy (the support gun on both sides is absolutely pathetic). Also, I think BF2142 isn't fresh enough, period. It is the exact same formula applied to a vastly story, but it comes off as a glorified mod. Maybe the unlocks will make it worth buying... but I like BF2 better.
The art of war is simple enough. Find out where your enemy is. Get at him as soon as you can. Strike him as hard as you can, and keep moving.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
All this stuff about unlocks etc has me a little concerned.
We here at TG pride ourselves at being unranked because of the custom scripts we choose to run to make it a TG server (mandatory squad joins etc).
But the problem I'm seeing is that standard, unranked BF2 was a very playable full-featured game. Some might argue that it was even more balanced than /w the unlocks. But now BF2142 so far seems to require unlocks just to make it worthwhile. What does this mean for the TG way?
Does this mean we'll have to go ranked just to be able to play 2142 in any usable form and depend on active policing by the Admins to allow SM access, mandatory squad joining etc?
That sounds like a step backward from our BF2 / POE2 servers and would be unfortunate. In a way it looks like EA/Dice is making running an unranked server very unattractive.
The only way out is if they loosen the reigns a bit on the mods u're allowed to run to remain ranked. But I don't see them doign that since I'm sure they want everyone renting ranked servers etc from their partners.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
There's a server setting in BF2 to allow unlocks to be carried over from ranked servers, we've just never enabled it at TG.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
ya agree, support is one of my favorite classes because of the thought ahead of time needed to go into it. Support is horrible at dealing with situations that pop up suddenly (that is what assualt is for). But if you plan your movements as support and points where you can set up yours gun. You tear through everything.
As for my thoughts on the demo...well actually no, my thoughts on 2142. I love it, it is a different take than bf2 ya, but you know what....it is fun, a lot actually.
The demo however I think EA kinda did a poor job on it...the map is kinda boring and the fact that there are no unlocks. Seriously I know this has been said before, but it would be like playing BF2 with only pistols. Which get boring real fast...which can kinda happen to the demo.
