Re: Thoughts on BF2142
Eh, the whole unlock system has pretty much turned me away. Say there is a level 20 support guy with nades, extra stamina, deployable force shield, deployable sentry gun, SL sentry gun, and the powerful MG unlock gun. That one guy can pretty much wipe out a full squad of rank one beginners who only have their basic weapons.
And I think one reason many of you feel it's too arcadish is all the freaking spawn points. SL, SL beacon, APCs, flying transports, flags, silos, Titans. Can you imagine the Blackhawk being a mobile spawn point in BF2? I don't really know how to explain it, but it feels like there is less teamwork in getting somewhere now.|TG-33rd|Dark_Viper

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
1. Even if you unlock all those things you can only take TWO of them to battle. So someone with only two unlocks has the same advantage, they just cant swap different ones out when the die.
2. All those spawn points are only for the titan mode. Its just to make getting on the titan easier and it does. I would had waiting around all day for the transport to show up when i can just spawn on the nearest transport and get my ass up there! And when the SL starts getting beacons, thats when youre squad can really put the hurt on. If you played on the conquest server, you can only spawn on the SL and CPs. APCs barely shoot you out. So conquest is a lot less arcady in that sense.
Ive had a lot of pubbies in my squad so far follow orders very well, even a few that asked who we were and i gave out the website and told em what were about. This game is great tool to bring in like minded people to TG. Lets think about that. People want to be in squads for more points and field upgrades, right? So start a squad, get that teamwork going, and you never know...we might get a lot more TGers from this game.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
Na, the nades and stamina are passive unlocks. The SL sentry gun goes in the SL spot, the force shield and deployable gun go in your 2 items slots, and the weapon unlock goes in your weapons slot. So you can have all that stuff at the same time.
As for the other stuff, I guess I've been playing Titan mode too much.|TG-33rd|Dark_Viper

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
I've waited a bit to post my thoughts, and here they are after playing the demo a good amount.
-Titan mode is ok until the the titan fight starts. The lag at this point makes it fighting on ice, its broken.
-Conquest mode is just like the BF2 version, it runs and plays fine.
-The graphics are more of an upgrade than I thought they would be, most notably the lighting effects. It actually puts quite the hurtin on my PC and I'm finding myself turning things down.
-It is not more arcadey. Not in conquest at least. Coming from PoE2, I'd say its SLOWER than that. You run much slower, your sprint runs out faster, etc.
-I didn't see the armor or mechs as overpowered, I think everything was actually pretty well done.
-The guns are... different. They do seem weaker and inaccurate at first. Actually, one huge thing I noticed which made a very large difference in the way I play, is the prone accuracy. In BF2 it's par for the course to jump down to prone when you begin engaging as you immediately get your accuracy bonus. In BF2142, there is about a 3 second accuracy HIT you take when going prone. It's huge and completely changes how you play. It is more like CS now where you crouch when you spot an enemy and engage. I'd like to see a weapons chart for the game, judging from the crosshair movement there doesn't even seem to be an accuracy benefit for when you are full settled in prone. Hmm.
-My demo experience was actually more positive than I thought. I'll wait a bit to see how the server thing plays out before buying though.

ah youre right viper...i read it wrong. But if he had the senrty drone you need a minimum of 4 people in your squad to use it, so youll already be more powerful thanks to your squad. But they take the same amount of hits to die, plus everyone knows hes the SL now thanks to that floating sentry drone.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
So is anyone else getting bored of this map? I like loading a new map after each round, but now I just play for one round then go do something else.
I preferred Verdun from the beta as well, this map, not so hot.|TG| Lorian

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
Many more spawn points is going to be the big tactical difference I think
with BF2 you take flag, set up periment of eyes, intercept them on the way in
with multiple spawn points its going to be much more difficult stopping them getting near the flag/silo,
its going to be a game of counter attack and managing your spawn points to manage the flags
I'm eagerly awaiting the full retail to see how the tactics change
also the bulk of the BF2/POE2 worlds population will be going for BF2142, so thats where the action will be.
I prefered vanlla to POE2, but thats where the TG players were, so thats where I was.
The question is will the TG players goto BF2142 or try to make POE2 their speciality.
I think this may be determined by having visiting pubbies in far greater numbers on BF2142 than POE2
I reckon by Christmas BF2142 will be where the TG action

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
I would be very surprised (and disappointed) if 2142 were the only active BF2 mod running here by Christmas. Not only is PoE2 continually being upgraded, but we have Forgotten Hope and Desert Conflict on the horizon, and I expect they will both be very good mods.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
I'm not that impressed. Weapons are too inaccurate and take too long to kill. Also I dislike the whole unlock system.
I much prefer PoE2 and TacMod, even vanilla BF2.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
It has occurred to me that Battlefield has been turned into one of those leveling games like Warcraft and/or Diablo. You start off first level (private) with nothing but your gun and you must earn experience (points) to gain levels (ranks) so you can get more powers (unlocks). I'm not really interested in treadmill games where the longer you play, the more powers you have access to. I prefer the previous Battlefields where it is based on player skill with the kit and not how long someone has been playing the game. The worse thing about the game to me is that I cant switch to play a different kit and be effective because I dont have those unlocks in that particular kit. So it's not gonna be possible as an SL to adjust your squad on the fly because others may not have access to the unlocks that you need.
The other annoying thing about the demo is the lack of unlocks. If the whole game revolves around unlocks, why doesnt the demo demonstrate them?-33rd- BaneII
