Thoughts on BF2142
So I've just finished playing a few rounds of BF2142 on the TG servers.
I've gotta say .. I'm underwhelmed...
I can't quite put my finger on it .. but the game feels, "empty"
Everything just feels so arcadey and generic. A lot of the character that each side had in BF2 is just not there. The vehicles feel the same just the skins are different for each side.
This was exactly the thing I was afraid was going to happen. When game developers try to develop a futuristic world, a lot of times it just doesn't feel "real" or "authentic" and instead just feels lacking. Real life just has so much variety that its hard to project that into the future.
Ofcourse maybe I'm just not getting it because a lot more has to be 'unlocked'.
I remember the first time I jumped into BF2 Demo and I was amazed .. I felt like I'd dropped into a real warzone and I was immediately hooked. Not in this case.
I like the air transport and its guns but the flight model just feels ridiculously dumbed down like I'm skating on Ice as opposed to flying something.
I'm going to play it some more and try and give it a chance to grow on me but I didn't have to do that for BF2.
What does everyone else think?

Same here. All I can do is wonder what the retail version will be like with unlocks.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
I have to agree. If at least it wouldn't have the lag.
The weapons feel somewhat underpowered. Okay, the walker is cool, but also the gun in there should have made some progress since 1942.Gigabyte P35-DS3R, 2GB, 8800GTS 640MB, Core2Duo E8400

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
I'm kind of in the same boat. None of the weapons or the vehicles really felt right or Battlefieldy. The weapons are far too inaccurate (is there anyone who played BF2 and thought that the guns needed MORE random deviation?) and the vehicles don't feel weighty enough. There are some really cool ideas though that just need more development, and Titan mode is a really cool concept. Overall, unless the full reviews are glowing, I don't think I'm going to be buying this one.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
The weapons seem a little meh as well. As someone on the server said today, "It's the future. You should be able to hit that *#$@!@#!@ barn wall perfectly every time - not this inaccurate BS". Add that to the lag, and then it's really a deal breaker. ...only I already preordered via EA downloader.

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
It feels like an arcade game, I think is the problem. Battlefield 2 allowed the allusion of reality, when enforcing certain rules, simply because a) It being set in current time, is something we can draw a connection with and b) It is a lot slower paced. It's almost like chess vs checkers, while both are fairly simple in concept, one can pertain to a lot more depth if one is willing to play a thinking style. Checkers, aka 2142, doesn't have the option. But, on the other hand, give it a chance. Let's not [Insert cliche here?].

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
I know its just a demo. Was a cool concept, but it just looks and feels like BF2 with a reskin design and new maps. All the vehicles react and drive just the same as the BF2 ones. Nothing really all that new about it. Its a futuristic FPS, so was Doom HL2 and UT. This game just offers better online play and unlocks. Again i relize its just a demo, but im hopeing it gets better
that sounds like a good idea trooper.

Sad to say I agree with everyone else so far. I was bored after 4 or 5 games. Running around on the Titan is like having a seizure. I was optimistic for this title but now not so much.

geez...well i guess im a loner on this one. I love it...i cant wait for retail for more maps and unlocks which make the game more interesting. Of course its gonna feel empty without them. And no it doesnt take long to get them. I hope some other TGers will get it cuz im gonna need some people to play with!

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
I'm on the fence with 2142. Demo still doesn't feel quite right. Not sure what exactly it is, but as others have said the 'shock and awe' of Battlefield 2 just isn't there for me.
Anyone know if Armed Assault is coming out this year? I may hold out for it...

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
I really like 2142, though I seem to be in the minority.
One thing I will mention though, the map in the demo, not so great. I prefered Verdun in the beta. Can't wait for retail so I can play all the other maps, and revive people :\.
Pre-ordered yesterday, £20 from PC World. It wasn't until after I ordered I noticed it said delivery, 5-7 days after release. Oh well, it's pretty cheap so I'm not overly fussed.|TG| Lorian

Re: Thoughts on BF2142
I have to agree with the majority here. I don't get that same sense of immersion as I do in BF2. Probably because the game is extremely fast paced. Although I did have fun in the TG squad defending that one cp. I already have it preordered so I'll be playing with you Snail.
