Re: Titan - A Floating BattleShip
I've tried it on a few different servers, the lag is ping independent. It's just the server choking out.
Judging from the bf2142 forums its the game mode, not the server.

Re: Titan - A Floating BattleShip
From what I've been reading on the editor forum, the lag comes from the titan moving while you're in it due to problems with the collision detection. Just like in BF2 when you try to ride on a tank and things get really jerky. The speculation there is that DICE didn't fix the errors in the collision, they just made the titan really slow to minimize how noticable it is.
Of course, that's mostly speculation.

Re: Titan - A Floating BattleShip
In the beta you could also pod from your titan to the back of your titan where the enemy lands. It allowed access to the upper portion of the hull not accessible on foot. I would sit up there and shoot AT rounds at incoming transports. I'm not sure if you can still do this. I'll have to check tonight.

Re: Titan - A Floating BattleShip
The titan is one of the greatest weapons in BF2142 and not many commanders use them to the fullest. It is a glorious sight however seeing a titan right in the middle of the map with all guns blazing. Can turn the tide a battle by wow-factor alone.

What I hate about the titans is when you're on a silo and there is someone in one of the titan guns bombarding the silo. There is pretty much nothing you can do but hide.

I know, but when it's you with your little gun versus the big ass titan gun, you're probably gonna end up dead...

Re: Titan - A Floating BattleShip
Like I said, The titan can be a great weapon if it's used properly.

Re: Titan - A Floating BattleShip
The Titan isn't invincible. What I noticed when using the guns was that it didn't seem to be able to hit anything not directly below it with any more then 2 guns at a time. I was also able to camp all 4 guns (despite attempted repairs) with a single AA cannon. If only 2 could hit me I'd say that's overkill. On top of that killing the guns damages the Titan, it makes a big difference very quickly if left unchecked.
