Invisible player models on long ranges with sniper?
So, I've been playing around with the Recon class mostly - I enjoy sniping and the "breath" effect makes it a bit more challenging, anyways my problem is this: When I hover players above 200-210+ meters the models fades out. When my crosshair is over something else and the player i want to shoot is in the sides of the scope i see him - but as soon as I try to put my crosshair above him he fades out.... wtf is wrong? (not viewing distance, etc. i have everything on max except "Effects")

not sure...i know the game engine has how much you can view based on a box, not a circle...why i dont know. What that means is that you can see farther to your right and left than directly ahead of you. I know you can get the upgraded scope for you sniper rifle but im not sure that it would help.

Well the thing is that I can see everything(vehicles, buildings, boxes, etc.) on the long ranges - except the player models. Which is very annoying when I wanna snipe someone at 200m+

Only thing I can think of that will help is view distance scale. That little slider thing in video options menu.
The lower you have it set the closer the fog is to you, and the fast people fade out.
So try setting it to 100%...95% is default dunno if there is a difference.
If you computer can not handle it, try setting your other setting down...or better yet check out that tweak guide someone posted.

The phenomenon of seeing further at the sides of your view isn't just in BF2142 -- I've noticed it in many other games. I'm not certain what causes it, exactly, but the view being based on a box as Snail88 says sounds perfectly plausible.

Yeah, usually games use boxes, but they often tilt them so that the corners are in front and behind you, and to the sides. I guess BF2/BF2142 don't, or you have some other issue.
