    Character Suggestion

The first unlocks are fairly easy to achieve. I've read in another post that 5-6 can be unlocked in a period of an hour or so. Getting unlocks gets much harder after that as it takes more and more points to achieve the next one at each level.

I would suggest we can each create an alternate character for other unlocks. This allows us to have some flexibility from game to game in how we want to play. For example, while my main character of Shiner is going to slowly build up as many unlocks as feasible over time, I will also be creating ShinerAS, ShinerENG, ShinerSUP, ShinerREC. These will allow me to get a decent set of unlocks outside my primary character for those times when I want to play sniper or be an engineer. Getting this unlocks for the lowest price through specialization also allows you to test out how you like each unlock and decide how you want to spec your main.

Depending on how the whole unranked vs ranked server plays out here, it might also be beneficial to have all the unlocks (even if they are split between different characters).

Anyway, it just a suggestion for those thinking about how they will spec out.

    Re: Character Suggestion

I see your thought process here Shiner, but I don't think I'll be doing this.

I'm not sure the point of having a character specialized in say, engineer class. Because, if suddenly in the game you need an engineer, you can't log out and log back in to use him.

Why not just have one character that you specialize early like I mentioned in my unlocks thread, then always use that kit that you have unlocks in. That way you have all the best tools of one particular kit, while your squadmate (hopefully) has all the best tools of another kit. Effectively you get a better and more powerful squad. As we all play more we'll unlock enough stuff to have maybe 2 or 3 powerful kits, and you get to diversify like that.

I can see, from just a bored standpoint, if you want to have separate accounts to have full power in more than one kit. Thats fine, but as to your point of trying out other unlocks, you get to do that quickly and easily through field upgrades. If you play effectively in a squad you get these things FAST. In 1.5 hours of play I had only unlocked 4 things, but had access to (I think) almost every tier 1 set of unlocks for every kit.

The other problem is that, yes it only takes an hour or so to get your first 4 unlocks, but you have to remember those all aren't necessarily going to go into a kit specific unlock. I mean they can, but your character isn't going to have grenades, sprint, or any kind of squad leader assets. To get that stuff PLUS tech up in one kit is going to probably take 6 or 7 hours, minimum. So your effectively burning unlocks to keep getting the basics over and over again.

I'd rather devote all the experience to one character, thus getting him more diverse and powerful, than 3 or 4 characters that specialize.

Interesting thread on life spent vs rank in Bf2142:

In short the amount of time required for an unlock sky rockets past 20th unlock or so.

As I mentioned in another thread remember that field upgrades can give you one step up in the unlock branches. Which mean you really dont need to get the last step (The new weapon) you just get it with field upgrade, the field upgrades are very easy to get.

This is something I tried with BF2 before joining TG, I didn't get very far with it. Now I haven't played on a ranked server for a very very long time. Anyway, if TG implements a member script for 2142 like the BF2 one, you can only register one soldier name at a time, so to switch specialties you would also have to login and change your username here, if the server was close to auto kick.

I don't think that's true. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm positive the kick script goes by your BF2 ID - not your user name. Your BF2142 ID should be unique and the same one no matter what soldier you log in as. So as long as you're using the same EA log-in, your unique ID should stay the same.

The difference with BF2 is you couldn't have multiple soldiers under the same login.

You BF2ID changes with each different name you use.

Yes. But BF2142 allows you to have multiple soldiers under the same ID, so I don't see that problem in 2142. It does allow you to have multiple soldiers, right? I'm pretty positive on that one.

Bf2ID is used to track stats.. So, each soldier is going to have different stats... So, each soldier is going to have a different ID.
