Re: Ads? Where are they?
I'm sure we'll be seeing compulsory "patches" to the game that will somehow change the appearance of the billboards. I guess EA probably wants to see how many people are playing the game to best determine the value of in game adspace. I won't mind seeing ads on the billboards as long as they have some decent design to them that don't take away from the immersion of the game. In fact, it may even help squads communicate if the boards are varied across maps. For example, if you're in a squad and there are several different billboards around, it would be easier to describe enemy location to teammates if all you have to say is "Enemy near tippy's taco hut billboard." Eh?

Re: Ads? Where are they?
For all we know the EU/PAC billboards are "live" and recording usage stats for the ad sellers to tout to customers.

Re: Ads? Where are they?
if you want to see an EA game with waaaaaaaayyyyyy too many billboards, play Burnout 3: Takedown for the Xbox. there were so many that I wanted to cry.

Re: Ads? Where are they?
Wow, I didn't realize that the C2D would still be so popular 100 years in the future. Intel's got a goldmine on their hands. Maybe it's C2D to the 10th power? Just hard to see that little 10.

Re: Ads? Where are they?
the ads will probably be 2D images placed on top of a 3D plane (the billboard). I doubt it'll take any amount of GPU processing power that would effect your gameplay. You already see ads in the game, they're just for PAC and EU recruitment.
So unless the ads do some tricked out 3D animation (which would actually add to the realism of futuristic billboard ads), I think we'll be OK.

Re: Ads? Where are they?
My guess is that the texture is already displayed regardless if it's a picture of an ad or some PAC/EU recruitment billboard. The part where it could affect performance is all the calculations for viewing angle, time viewed, etc. for ad stats tracking.
I don't mind any of the extra overhead but some will. Although, if a difference of a few fps is important to a player they're probably dreaming of an upgrade anyway. |
