I'm using the BEFSX41 v2 with the latest firmware. I have confirmed that turning off the firewall DOES allow me to play, but it's just not an acceptable alternative.

It doesn't actually prove what you think it does, though. If a client expects a heartbeat from a master server in order to stay online, and that UDP heartbeat doesn't use the proper state when sending to the client, the client will cease to get the packets. If it's the client that's sending to the master server and there are no egress rules in the firewall, there's nothing to stop the packets from getting out.

I'm pretty positive that it's an inbound issue.

Re: 2142 Ranked Server & Lag Issues

I am pretty sure it is something serverside.I have no problems playing on maps with 64 players , even when the 2 titans move non stop. Tried to play a bit on the TG ranked last n8 , but it did not run smooth. I seen ppl warping from infront of me to behind me , i seen planes crashing against those high buildings etc ...
But but but , i am pretty sure it wil run smooth sooner our later , Rome wasnt build in one day too ;-)
I do miss the TG teamplay atm , thats something i can only find on a TG server ;-)
So i will just go on unlocking stuff until its fixt ;-)

Does the unranked server exhibit these sames issues? Or is it just the ranked server?

I have my WRT54G firewall turned off and use Zone Alarm firewall on HIGH settings. I haven't had an issue with connections to EA.

    Apo,
Have you considered running a port scanner (or whatever it is called) that detects what is trying to go in and out of your computer? This way you can find out what ports EA is trying to contact you by and open that port for them on your router.

I don't think there has been much play on the unranked server, but I can say that there were plenty of other ranked servers out there without much lag, even up to 64 players. The Titan servers were never as smooth as Conquest, but none were as bad as ours.

Yep. I've run Ethereal while playing to capture all the traffic to try and determine what's going wrong. But I honestly think it's a state issue with EA's master server. I'd be very curious to find out if it's only people with firewalls using Stateful Packet Inspection that are having issues.

Not sure if this will help, but if you want you can try and open a few ports and see if it alleviates the problem. Maybe you can get some games in until EA fixes the issue.

    Here are the ports EA uses;

    TCP 80, 443, 4711, 17475
    UDP 1500-4999, 16567, 27900, 27901, 29900, 55123-55125
    UDP/TCP 1024-1124, 18000, 18300, 27900, 29900

Agreed. I put a real brief report on the admin side of the house. What the solution is though, is way beyond my pay grade, sorry.

lol.. I've been delegating quite a lot, but there's still a ton of stuff on my plate. If I could find more self-starters with the skillset to match, I'd be more than happy to dump even MORE of this work off my plate and on to others.

Nope. I work all day, so there's not a whole lot I can do. Just got home a little bit ago, so I'll be popping on shortly to see what's up.

Sorry A wasn't refering to you actually, was wondering if all these no-good-stay at-home-take a day off work-type-nothing-better-to-do-except-play-2142 members could let us know? (Don't mind me, I'm just jealous.)

What sort of help are you looking for?

I am new to TG, but been in IT for over ten years. If you need me to lend a hand with anything technical, I will do what I can.
