2142 and Titan: I don't get it.
Well, I finally gave in: I purchased 2142 online (at a speedy 90min download!). I hated the demo, but I figured from reading here that the full version might be worth it after all.
Well, I hated every minute of it. I played Titan on a pub server. I would have liked to play on TG server, but it is the unranked and I thought I'd give the ranking thing a try (if I understood correctly, we need to unlock our things on a ranked server first, then we can play with the weapons on TG's unrank server?)
Appart from the fact that there was not much squad play even if people were merged into squads, I felt this game was lacking the depth of BF2 - especially POE2.
Things I didn't like:
- The game seems way too fast to me.
- The scenery is utterly boring to look at.
- The game feels way too much vehicule oriented and little infantry oriented.
- The fights in the Titan are often laggy (and I have a very fast comp & connection). They feel like total chaos (not in a fun way) and doesn't feel there is much tactical at play.
- The games seem ultra repetitive (cap the missile launchers asap so we can jump on that Titan and fight in there).
Things I liked:
- The graphics have been improved and I see it in the game. Textures and models feel a bit more polished than BF2.
- Finally, they revamped the GUI interface inside the game.
I didn't try Conquest mode yet.
I played about 150 minutes and got upped one rank.
I truely wonder what people like about like about this Titan thing...
In the end, Ito me 2142 feels like a BF2 MOD, without real gameplay improvement.

Re: 2142 and Titan: I don't get it.
Keep in mind that different people like different games for different reasons. Different strokes...
Also, keep in mind that playing w/ pubbies is a totally different experience than playing with TGers. The forced ranking system blows, but we will persevere as a community. We have a ranked server BTW, and once it's fine-tuned, it will be the only place we'll want to play.
So, I would suggest giving it some time, pair up with fellow TGers, and just gather some unlocks in the meantime.

FROM THE TACTICAL GAMER PRIMER.
3) Support game play in a near-simulation environment. Where the focus of play would not be solely on doing what it takes to win, but doing so utilizing real-world combat strategy and tactics rather than leveraging exploits provided to players by the design of the game engine.

Re: 2142 and Titan: I don't get it.
Thats weird. From my playtime i've found almost the exact opposite.
-It's actually more infantry oriented. Especially in titan mode.
-Titan mode ESPECIALLY, is much, much more tactical than conquest.
You really haven't played the game enough. You are taking your newness to the game mechanics and confusing that with the chaos you see around you.
Play in a squad with TG, there is absolutely no confusion at all. We are picking up the game fast and already starting to employ some pretty nifty tactics.

Re: 2142 and Titan: I don't get it.
I forgot to add that I have been a TG player for over 16 months now (used to have a one year SM status... need to re-aquire it).
I will try 2142 again on TG's ranked server. Hopefully gameplay quality will pick up a bit. But I have no illusions about the actual game... except how much more it makes me appreciate POE2.|TG|drjones666

You do lose the squad feeling in 2142.

It's just nice to have a different game play mode than only 'conquest'. I was shocked BF2 only came out with one mode. Nice to see DICE finally try something different.

Re: 2142 and Titan: I don't get it.
lol
THIS IS NOT BF2.
Don't play for an hour and expect to know what the hell is going on. Yes, it looks and feels similar, but there are HUGE gameplay changes hidden under the surface.
Like?
Proning no longer gives you an accuracy bonus, and there is a HUGE settle time before you even get normal accuracy.
SO what did I do when I fired up the demo? Well I saw an enemy, went prone for my accuracy bonus and started shooting. You can guess how well that went over. Not knowing enough about the game, I just assumed the guns were really inaccurate and I was all WTF like everyone about the "FUTURE" weapons.
I didn't post about it, I just continued playing though. I realized my initial reaction was based on IGNORANCE and when I learned how the guns worked, (they ALL have built in sway as well) I was just as, if not more, efficient at killing the enemy as I was in BF2. This example applies to many things that you seemingly don't like about the game, you just aren't familiar with the concepts yet.
Reviewing a game like you just did, after playing for "150 minutes" just doesn't seem logical to me.

Re: 2142 and Titan: I don't get it.
SL'ers really shine in this game. For every action that youre squad does while defending or attacking an objective gives you success points which is how we get our nifty lil field upgrades. The net bat is an amazing tool, especially when you have the upgrades to it. Teamplay in this game is amazing plain and simple...join up with some TGers and ask questions....thats the only way to learn.

Re: 2142 and Titan: I don't get it.
You guys are probably right, but I think you might be basis your opionions on pubies. I was on and off all day yesterday and the best times I had was when we had 2 full squads of TG. Even when we all went pubbing because of our server issues, we consitently dominated the action. I will admit to a bit of overload as far as kit selection and field upgrades, but I'm picking it up fast. PLayed the demo, this is no way comparable to the demo!

Re: 2142 and Titan: I don't get it.
I've warmed a little to the game after getting a chance to play with some TGers, but it still feels a little off.
I like the long settle time of going prone. After playing Grassfield (POE2) for so long, I got in the habit of crouching instead proning, and it's actually given me an edge against insta-proners.

Re: 2142 and Titan: I don't get it.
Ya know it still isn't a bad habit to get used to. If you go prone or crouch you still get the benefit of being a smaller target and get to take advantage of cover. I'm like you and constanly kneel to take a shot because I'm so used to Fallen and Orel. It's second nature, and has saved me once or twice from bunny hoppers. I did not know that there was no kneel or prone bonus, just a habit I have now.
