downloader game the same price wtf?!

Why is the game the same price for me to down load? Takes the same amount of time to download as it does just to drive over to the store and buy it there.

Re: downloader game the same price wtf?!

Because the retailers likely have contracts that prohibit selling direct at a lower price. It is pretty common for B&M retailors to protect themselves in industries they dominate through contractual provisions that stipulate they can't be undersold through a direct from manufacturer option. Regardless, I don' see EA lowering the price unless it thought it could build enough mementum through EA Downoader to influence higher margins when selling through retail.

The very reason I don't buy online...

Well if you owned EA stock for the last 4 years like I have you wouldn't be complaining :P.

If you can't beat them, join them and share in the profits.

There should be a discount for downloading, since there is no box, CDs, manual, packaging, store space, shipment, profit for the stores, etc.

I found it was cheaper buying from stores than EA Downloader...

Agreed. I bought a boxed copy today: 49 Canadian Pesos, EA downloader, 49 real US dollars. Duh!

USD is in the toilet now, so the conversion means it's only $55 CDN. If you paid taxes on that boxed copy you paid about the same.

I bought mine from Fry's (outpost.com) for $42.59. Beat that.

I decided to get it online instead of in store. About the same in Ontario after currency conversions. I don't mind about the discs and manual. I'd rather not bother with disc checks.

Shiner very clearly laid out why this isn't the case; in the future, as digital distribution becomes more common, we ought to see cheaper online games. For example, Red Orchestra, The Ship, Sam and Max, DEFCON, Darwinia, and other games are already about $20 over the Internet, although I think they often maintain that price when they go retail. Games that don't have to really worry about undercutting retail stores, like Popcap's stuff, are cheaper/

Re: downloader game the same price wtf?!

You are already seeing the big retailers starting to fight back against discount movie and song sales on the internet.
