Re: Server Lag

Just like to say that while the gameplay is awsome on the TG server as usual, there have been few times last couple of days where I said 'ah **** it' and went to play elsewhere beacuse of bad lag (especialy in vehicles or sniping) and the huge wait in between maps.

While the lag is only occasional, the wait between maps is the killer. It causes many players to log off, and it seems to affect the map order so we play few maps over and over without hitting good variety. (Belgrade seems to come up REAL often). Finaly I'd REALLY like to play Titan mode on TG server for some hallway carnage goodness

I have not encountered any similiar issues on any other ranked servers, sure some 64 player ones have lag here and there but no server had a huge wait in between maps, or the amount of lag I've seen on the TG server with 48 people on.

PS. If someone can PM me or post a way for me to contribute to the costs of the server I'd be more then glad to pitch some money in.

See, I hadn't even noticed that because I thought it was normal. My comp is really slow to load maps in BF2, so the next map is already well underway by the time I've loaded it. Load times in 2142 are so much shorter that I just figured that what I saw happened in BF2 too.

Re: Server Lag

What i see on my screen is "You're Killed" message and it stays like taht for a long time and then finnally loads things up... First couple of times I thought the server crashed and rebooted my computer it was not responding to my keyboard inputs.

I would think other people has the same feeling too if they play with us for the first time...

Re: Server Lag

Yea, its annoying. A ranked server from the Virginia data center would be perfect.

I did that first time it happened. I would probably still be doing it had I not seen seen someone post about it.

Re: Server Lag

I think the delay is caused by the method in which Hypernia loads the server.

Ranked server providers traditionally don't allow you access to the machine. Hypernia allows you access to the machine but you only have partial visibility of the BF2142 filesystem. The rest of the files seem to be located on a remote server somewhere. The server is VERY VERY slow at loading initially as well as loading maps.

I think what's happening with the delay is that clients are fully loaded yet the server is still loading the map, hence the delay in the initial round start timer.

Re: Server Lag

That is pretty poor if the server can't even load the map faster than the clients, especially as there is less to load (No textures, etc.)

Well, I don't think the server files are stored locally. If they are stored locally they may be stored in a non-NTFS encrypted filesystem. That's probably part of the tradeoff of allowing remote access to the box.

Re: Server Lag

I think it's probably just a poor setup by Hypernia. I'm sure they could think of a better way to allow you access and not lag the system. A delay of that long is an unacceptable feature and I personally would have never passed it to production. It's not like they couldn't store the server files in an encrypted NTFS folder that denies you access and then create a 3rd party utility that allows you to change settings only they choose you can change. This way you don't have access to the actual server files to edit, but you do have access to the settings you're allowed to change by a webpage utility edit, etc...

That's if that is what is even causing the issue.

Or it could be they are just allowing too many servers to run on the server we're running on which is bottlenecking the system. I assume we're not having a dedicated server all to ourselves for just one BF2142 ranked server. We have to be sharing, and they are a business..they'll try to squeeze as many on a box as possible.

Re: Server Lag

Well the 16567 port suggusts it is dedicated, like all the other TG servers. But maybe we just got the lucky pick of the default port.

Keep in mind the server doesn't have to be running the same game.

Re: Server Lag

It's a dedicated server. Hence the reason we can get access directly to the box. Although, it COULD be a virtual dedicated server provided through something like VMWare. I dunno.

Would the server be located here (or I'm reading this wrong) ?
