Not a true Battlefield game IMO
No dogfighting *tears*.
On the demo, I tried to do a loop with one of the gunships and it fell straight to the ground.

Thats what you get for the carnage you caused in BF2.

Re: Not a true Battlefield game IMO
I was so happy to find out that the engineers can unlock an AA weapon. Then I realized the air vehicles aren't nearly as deadly as in BF2...

Re: Not a true Battlefield game IMO
They were deadly enough to keep decimating my squad last night at a flag and we had nothing to fight them with because there are a lot less turrets in the game.
Granted, once and if people unlock the AA gun then it's not as much of a problem...but you won't always have an AA gun in the squad.Telorn

Re: Not a true Battlefield game IMO
Thats one of the many good thing the changed in BF2142, air power is much less of a factor in frustration. Same with artillery.

Nah the Heli/Jet thing is very powerful once in the right hands...
Anybody can fly it. But only those who mastered it can do some serious damage with it. So master away.|TG-1st| B | TG Pathfinder

I'm disappointed in you, DV! You've got to be careful with your rolls to not flip over, but you can do loops. And it's almost as good at flying sideways as it is flying forwards. You can do some pretty crazy manoevers.
I got access to the AA unlock in anticipation. Got my first kills last night. :-)

Re: Not a true Battlefield game IMO
I've never played my hand at being a pilot in any of the Battlefield games (I'm not any good at flying with a keyboard and mouse), I don't even use vehicles in general that much. That's one of the big reasons I liked playing BF2: Special Forces, because there's more infantry battles than anything else. I understand that just because the game is catering a little bit more to my preference of playing style doesn't make the game better, but it certainly makes not being in a vehicle a little more tolerable.

Re: Not a true Battlefield game IMO
Well, it could be that in the future the surface to air missle technology far surpassed the ability for an air vehicle to mask itself, and so they slowly became decommissioned
Or was it quickly?

Re: Not a true Battlefield game IMO
It's nice not having jets. I can see Dice had a real problem with anti air in BF2. If you make the anti air powerful enough to take out the jets, then heli's wouldn't even be able to get off the pad.

Re: Not a true Battlefield game IMO
Gunships in BF2142 are the equivalent of helicopters. They may not say that, but when you play as PAC and the guys talk in Russian they always refer to gunships as helicopters (vertolets). If they wanted to refer to it as a more hybrid craft, they would have used a less specific word.
Which reminds me, I don't recall being able to do loops in BF2 helis either
