Re: Battlefield 2142 Server Evaluation

I don't think it is the server, because it'll run the first few maps in the rotation perfectly fine with 64 players on it. But once the later maps start loading, occasional hiccups start to occur. We probably rarely see this because by the 3rd or 4th map the server typically crashes.

I have a feeling it's a RAM leak issue with the BF2142 server code, which is probably the main reason the server keeps crashing, too.

Miami: Noticed last few nights that the server resets after 3-4 maps.

Dallas: Not major issues other then lag on titan when it's moving.

Wolf server: Hardly any issues.

I'm in New Orleans, LA on a 7MB Cox connection.

Played for a long time tonight (8-12CST) and there were constant banding issues in fire-fights as well as delayed kill animation. Sniping was close to impossible. Ping times for me in the 110- 150 range.

Never enough people to test it well enough but got consistently better pings (70-90) than the Miami server when I was on trying to seed it (usually b/w 7-8PM CST)

Thanks for the opportunity to test 'em out! I hope the people that have good experiences post here as well - seems mostly negative.....

Re: Battlefield 2142 Server Evaluation

I'm on a 30 Mbps cablevision connection.

The 'B' 64 man conquest server crashed tonight (seems to every 4 or 5 rounds) and I joined the 48 man Titan 'B' server. It crashed so I joined the 64 man server again and it crashed after one map. unsat

Re: Battlefield 2142 Server Evaluation

I did not know that the server crashes are a BF2142 problem. But it make sence , because i had it on other servers too. But it seems that those 2 test servers crash allot more then anny other server i played on
I cant find anny better teamplay then on the TG servers , but those servers are realy realy bad. In all honesty i have to say that both those testservers are realy not fun to play on ( crashing , lagging , seeing ppl warping , etc ,etc ..) , so atm i play on non TG servers ;(

Re: Battlefield 2142 Server Evaluation

I gonna try the TG servers again tn8 , with VOIP disabled. I wonder if the VOIP makes me crash more on the TG server because it used allot there (?).
On other servers i have VOIP enabled all the time , but ....... no ones says a thing lol , so maybe thats a issue too ;-) Did not play this week on the TG server so i can not tell that the lag/warping is gone ( i will test it tn8 and post here). I did play on several servers for hours without a single crash ( could be luck offc , dunno) .

I will fool around a bit this week on different servers and will take note and report to you.

I will test both Titan and Quonquest servers with full map rotation and max players.

Greetz FWO your testslave ;D

Re: Battlefield 2142 Server Evaluation

I played for about 6 hours straight on a server (I can look it up in my history later on if you really need to know) Sunday morning without any crashes. What I recall this server doing is running a map for 2 rounds. Maybe the server crash tends to happen during a new map load? So, if we increase map rounds to 2 or 3, maybe our server will crash less often because it loads new maps less?

Also, if the server crash is happening around/on the same map, maybe for testing purposes we should consider removing that map. I recall a SF map in BF2 that caused a lot of issues, so it is possible that is it a map or maps that are causing the server crashes. Maybe we should start a thread/poll for people to mention what map the server crashed on to see if there is a pattern.

Another thing I like that this server did is every new round, it would switch sides on your team. So if you played berlin as EU round one, round two you play as PAC and then next map you'd be EU again for round one and PAC for round two, etc. I think this is really nice feature for those maps where one side is almost always doomed to fail. The only downfall is it would disband all squads every round. But maybe that isn't so bad.

As far as helping to reseed the server after a crash, if you don't already, place the most popular 2-3 maps in the front of the rotation so when it does crash, pubbies join because it's on a map they like.

Re: Battlefield 2142 Server Evaluation

I'll have to look at my history tonight and post the servers I have been using. I seem only to have server crashes on TG servers. I have played for hours on other servers with no problem.

Re: Battlefield 2142 Server Evaluation

Other than that early crash everything seemed to run fine.

There were those periodic pauses but it doesn't affect gameplay for me.

Re: Battlefield 2142 Server Evaluation

Yesterday I played around two 3 hour sessions and there was no crash on the VA conquest server. I had one connection issue with some banding and that was it.

I noticed the server now plays each map 2 rounds. It would help if you could have the server switch the teams each round...it sucks being on the receiving end of a lose-lose situation on some maps

As I was playing I think it would also help to repeat a CQB map inbetween the larger maps, especially since we're playing each map twice. Maybe for every 2 large maps, a CQB map is then repeated. I think this helps change up the gameplay and keeps it 'new'. Last night as I was playing I got in a rut of 'not another vehicle war' after the 3rd map loaded. That's 6 rounds. I quit on the 65th round, so I don't know if yet another large map was next.

I am happy to experiment with it, but there are arguments for both sides. I personally don't have the time to keep kicking lone wolves as it is. If there were any more, it would be beyond my capabilities.

Hopefully the automatic squadless kick Panzer is working on will solve this.
I don't want admins to be working 24/7 instead of having fun. Maybe after/if Panzer can get a kick script working on the ranked server, then we can consider the team switch.

And thanks for mixing up the map playstyles.

Re: Battlefield 2142 Server Evaluation

I like have 2 rounds on a map although as it stands if you lost the first one, you are probably going to lose the second as well. If we can get the squadless kick going, I'm in favor of the team swapping... or better yet, lets get a script that team-swaps, but doesn't kill off the squads

Re: Battlefield 2142 Server Evaluation

titan server has been nearly unplayable for me all day. ~50 ping, but my movement is sticky and unreponsive, and it otherwise generally feels akin to playing a game at 10fps.
