1: Where do I find the Tactical Gamer servers?

Server 1 is located in the Virginia datacentre and will mostly be running 46-50 player conquest:

The Conquest server plays 2 rounds per map, switching teams at the end of each round for balance. Squads are emptied at the end of each round, so don't forget to form up again when the round starts or you'll get kicked by the auto-admin script. We alternate maps between infantry and combined arms and try to keep a good mix between assault and double assault maps.

Server 2 is currently running Titan maps.

2: What are the server rules?

Tactical Gamer Battlefield 2142 Server Rules.
3: How do I report a problem player?

We have a detailed thread on how to report infractions and how admins handle problem players.
4: Why was I kicked or banned?

There are a few innocuous reasons you may have been kicked / banned:
  1. To make room for a Supporting Member. Supporting Members are entitled to reserved slots on all of our servers and we kick the longest playing Non-Supporting Member to make room for them.
  2. You forgot to join a squad. Playing as a team is mandatory on TG servers. We don't allow lone wolves.
  3. There is a bug when switching teams at the end of the round where you are still in the same squad as last round, but unable to leave it. Unfortunately, the game registers you as being squadless, so you can get picked up by the squadless kick. The only way to correct this is to disconnect from the server and rejoin. Sorry, we don't have any control over this.
  4. Immediately upon loading into the server. This is also part of the SM Reserved Slot script. See below for how it works.
  5. 4 people punished you for teamkills in a round. The ban only lasts one round and is automatic. Please jump on TeamSpeak to let us know. Also, punishing accidental teamkills can get the punishing player kicked, so please report any player who punishes accidental teamkills.

If the above don't apply and breaking one of our rules got you banned, do not start a thread in the forums. Start a thread only in the Contact an Admin forum and tell them your in-game name plus clan tag you were using at the time.
5: How do I become a Supporting Member?

Simple: Right here!
6: What are the benefits of a Supporting Member?

One of the many ways that players can show their support for Tactical Gamer is through purchasing a supporting membership (SM). Supporting memberships are the major component to keeping the lights on here at Tactical Gamer.

The funds received go towards items like domain names, forum software, advertising, servers, storage space, teamspeak, etc. No individuals or administrators receive any money for their service. Additional funds received go into a pool of funds that are utilized when new games are released and we don't have the player-base required yet to support the game.

Quite a few new games have come to market over the past few months and Tactical Gamer has dipped into this pool of funds to provide all of you the capability to play these games Tactical Gamer style. When these new games are released and supported by Tactical Gamer, there are times when other servers begin to make their way out the door. To make sure that your existing favorite game(s) or new release continues to be supported by Tactical Gamer, please consider becoming a supporting member.

To show our appreciation, Tactical Gamer does offer some additional benefits for supporting members. Here are just a few of those benefits:
  1. Personal @tacticalgamer.com email address
  2. Personal FTP / Web space
  3. Access to members-only forums
  4. Access to members-only FTP for high-speed downloads of the latest patches, mods, etc.
  5. Cool new supporting member tag under your forum name
  6. Additional capabilities (e.g. create channels) in Teamspeak
  7. Ability to join an In-house squad (IHS)
  8. Reserved slots in most of our game servers
  9. Priority spot to play in TG events (scrims/tourneys)
  10. Temporary administrative rights on certain game servers
  11. PM inbox gets an increase to 500 messages
7: I am a Supporting Member, how do I claim my reserved slot?

In order to participate in our automated reserved slot system for Battlefield 2142, it is recommended that all Battlefield 2142 players update their User Profile in the forums and add their Battlefield 2142 Player ID#.

How to find your Battlefield 2142 Player ID#
  1. Visit the EA Stats Website
  2. Type your BF2142 Soldier Name in to the "Nickname" box
  3. A new search result page will open. Scroll down to fine your name and click on "Profile".
  4. A new window should open with your stats. The number at the end of the URL is your BF2142 PID. In the URL http://battlefield.ea.com/....&Profiles=&PID=12345678, 12345678 is the BF2142 PID required for the next step.

How to add your Battlefield 2142 Player ID# to your User Profile
  1. Click on the UserCP link at the top of this page and then select Edit Profile, or follow the link below to open your user profile. Edit Player Profile
  2. Scroll down to the box titled "Battlefield 2142 Player ID" and enter your ID there.
  3. Click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page.
8: How do the Auto Admin scripts work?

Explanation of Auto Admin scripts functionality.
9: Can I wear the TG tag?

You will see players on the servers using the |TG| tag in their name when they play on the server. Players who become regulars quickly ask: may I use the TG tag in my name?

Anyone who endorses and practices our playstyle and rulesets may wear the TG tag when playing on our or other servers. Bottom line: if you support TG for what it is and want to show that support, the TG tag is a good way to do it. Many players who love it here choose not to sport the tag in their playername, and that's fine, too, if that's what you prefer. The option is there for you to take or leave.

We love it when people support this community with Supporting Memberships, but it's still not required to wear the TG tag. The same goes for when you play on non-TG servers. You are representing the community. If you are wearing the TG tags while on another public server, We expect you to show your TG support by holding to our rules and conduct. Even if that means tactical disadvantage.
10: How do I add the |TG| tags in BF2142?

In BF2142, adding tags is easy as pie compared to older games where it proved to be a tad harder. With TG tags, our standrad format is 1 line, TG, then 1 more line. |TG|. In-house Squads format is one line, TG, Dash, IHS#, then one line. |TG-1st|.

Easy as pie is one thing, but adding lines is a tad tricky for some. As the lines don't apper in the Tag box when we select our soldier. Even though they don't apear, you can still type it in and they will register. Sometimes it works and sometimes you have to play around a bit to get it to place correctly. If that fails there is one last way to place it that always works. It's a few more steps but only takes 3 minutes.
  1. Open up Windows Explorer, your Terminal, or whatever file browser you may be using.
  2. Navigate over to your "My Documents" folder (Default: C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\My Documents\).
  3. Navigate into \Battlefield 2142\Profiles\.
  4. Open up Global.com using any text editor (Notepad will do).
  5. There should be a line that contains the GlobalSettings.setNamePrefix command. Usually, this will be the second line in the file.
  6. Whatever is in between the two double quotes following this command will be your prefix. Edit it to your desire. (Example: GlobalSettings.setNamePrefix "|TG|")
  7. Save the file (File -> Save), and exit out of your text editor.
  8. That's it, you're done! The next time you login to BF2142, you should now have the correct prefix. Note that if the changes are made while BF2142 is open, it will NOT work. You must have BF2142 closed.

This method can also be used if your prefix gets "stuck" and you can't change it for one reason or another. Just edit the file and put in what you what.
11: What is an In-house Squad? (aka: IHS)

An IHS is simply a group of players who have banded together under a single title / tag within the Tactical Gamer (TG) community. These players have the desire to work together as a unit within the greater TG team. Some In-house Squads focus on only one game or mod, while others have interest and participate in multiple games / mods.

IHS FAQ:

What is the purpose of an IHS?
There tends to be one single overarching purpose of an IHS, and that is to grow and learn from friends to become a better functioning unit as a whole than the sum of the individual parts. In other words, the members of an IHS learn and practice to function stronger together. However, each IHS does have their own goals and desires. Some players have come together for the enjoyment of roleplaying and diving deeper into the finer aspects of simulation gaming, acting out their roles on the battlefield. Other players have formed an IHS because they enjoy the laughter and commentary that can only exist amongst friends.

What are the requirements / restrictions of an IHS?
  • In-house Squads are reserved for Supporting Members.
  • The IHS tag is a numerical designation. (e.g. |TG-1st|, |TG-42nd|, |TG-7th|, etc.)
  • An IHS is limited to no more than (approximately) twenty eight (28) members.
  • A player may only be in one IHS at a time.
What benefits are there to being a member of an IHS?
  • Each IHS will receive a private discussion forum within the TG forums.
  • Each IHS will receive individual teamspeak squad channel(s).
  • On occasion, In-house squads will receive first access to special gaming events. (e.g. scrims)

How do I start an IHS?
Creating an IHS is rather simple. If you already have a group of friends that you regularly squad up with and would like to officialy form an IHS, then determine your squad numerical designation and contact asch to setup your private forums, group leader(s), teamspeak channels, etc.

I'm not a supprting member. Do I have any options?
Yes! have a look at the Irregulars. They are the only IHS that are exempt from supporting membership requirement.
12: How do I join a In-house Squad?

You have to ask them! Each IHS is different. Some might have an open door policy or invite only. Some might close all recruitment. Its up to the IHS to decide how they fill out their ranks.
13: What is the BFx private server?

The private server is available for reservations as an additional benefit for supporting members. It's setup for all of TG's sponcered BF2 mods and BF2142. If you would like to reserve the private server, continue reading...

Who can reserve the private server?
  • All supporting members have the option to reserve the private server for use by yourself and other supporting members.
  • Tactical Gamer has also decided that the private server will be available for any Tactical Gamer team participating in the BFCL tournaments as long as one team member is a supporting member.
  • Tactical Gamer has decided that the private server will be available for any Tactical Gamer team participating in a scrimmage.

How do I reserve the private server?
  1. From within the forums select on the calendar menu link.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom right of the calendar where it says "Calendar Jump" and select Battlefield Private Server.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom right of the calendar and "Add New Event".
  4. Provide the event title, starting and ending date / time. Make sure to add the Game/Mod that you wish to have running. Enter in any remaining event information.
  5. One of the event calendar moderators will be notified to approve the event. This is done to verify that the event has been acknowledged and we're able to set the server up appropriately. The event will be visible on the calendar when it has been acknowledged.
14: What is the TG award and merit system?

Award forum. This system is setup so any member can submit a nomination for any fellow player that is a member to these forums. Each award is voted upon by the game's admin panel based on the player's actions while at TG and the nomination submitted by the player. More details are given in the Award forum, take a look for yourself!
