"Join squad" bug?

I finally got a chance to play on the TG server and for some reason I couldn't join any squads at all. I tried several including creating one (unsuccessfully), and as a result I got kicked (punkbuster) and couldn't get back on again...

Is this a bug? Because it was fustrating as all get out. I suck at this game so I need the squad support (hey, I'll admit it). I never play as a lone wolf (well at the very beginning until I figered out what buttons to push, but not since then).

So now what? am I banned from playing on your servers forever? What if it happens again.

the squad bug is a known bug. sometimes you cant join, and others, you are unable to leave. in both cases, you will be kicked by the script. the script will not ban you, and you should be able to reconnect if the server is not full. the server is full when it is 2 people under the listed cap, in that case, you will be kicked with a generic punkbuster message that says something like you were kicked for teamkilling or some other random reason. if you think you were banned by an admin, please read the following thread for more info:

Re: "Join squad" bug?

I got the generic punkbuster message.... I guess I'll try back later.. I'm just disappointed because I finally got play on the same server and on the same side with a friend of mine (supporting member here) who indirectly got me into this game.. as luck (and timing) has it I've only managed to play with him once before.. and that was the second day I started playing 2142...

Re: "Join squad" bug?

When this bug does bit, spawn in to the game and then attempt to join or create a squad. that usually works for me.

Re: "Join squad" bug?

Yeah Grant, this bug can be a real pain, and it is kinda disappointing to hear reports that it wasn't addressed in the patch since that hit today. Sadly there isn't much you can do about it, and it's even worse if you're not a supporting member and can easily get back on. I've felt your pain on this one more then a handful of times. Better luck in the future.

I've had that happen to me when I was trying to change sqauds around after the game started and found out about the "once you spawn in the first time you have to be alive to change squads" rule. And it makes sense that you can't change while dead and filter a whole team through a squad leader's spawn location. It would be way too open for abuse by those that would tend to such things.

But, I've been hit by the bug that Cylon is talking about. The server thinks you're not in a squad, but your client thinks you are. You will show up in that squad on your client, and if another person joins in place of you it will show 7/6 people in the squad. You literally cannot leave your squad, because the client will send the "player wants to leave squad" request to the server, but the server knows you're not in one so it never responds with "player has left squad" acknowledgement. No matter how many time you try to leave the squad it won't send the proper acknowledgement to your client. It really should be coded so that if you try and leave a squad but the server thinks you're not in one it will tell your client you're out of one anyways so life can go on, but it does not.

When this happened to me I asked around in TS and got the answer that I pretty much found myself. You have to disconnect from the server and reconnect to reset/resync your squad status from a server-client standpoint. I usually kill the game reboot and relaunch too if I've been playing for a few hours, but a disconnect/reload should be sufficient.

As for getting back in your squad, well, next map rotation you'll have the same shot at the reverse auction snipe squad selection that everyone else has. Or, your SL can lock and invite.

This is what was occuring and still does from time to time. The only cure I have found is to Apply and be accepted as Commander. That will put you in commander slot. Otherwise you have to disconnect and come back. It only does it at the start of the 2nd round of the same map.

Unhappy What gives?

I was playing on the TG server tonight, having a blast as usual, when I was kicked to make room for a clan member. Now, I understand the necessity to open slots for clan members but how do you choose who you are going to kick? I always cooperate with SL's and CO's and I was doing a damn fine job of killing stuff in the last 2 rounds.

I really enjoy playing here and I hope I wasn't kicked due to some unspoken problem TG has with me.

Re: What gives?

its totally script base. I beleive it starts with who has been on the server the longest. Nothing against the members or players on the server, we have no control over who gets kicked. The SOPs explain more.

Re: What gives?

The admin script will kick the non-supporting member that has been on the server the longest. So, eventually it will be your turn no matter what, if you play long enough.

Nothing you did wrong. If you had done something wrong there would have been big admin capital text in a different color telling you why.
