Known bugs
http://www.totalbf2142.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7785
I've verified/seen all of these myself so they are all real. The only one that needs correction is the "beacon and sentry guns 3d icon" bug.
That one is not totally accurate. The hud icon bug actually affects EVERYTHING. BF2142 does not properly show HUD icons when it should. This includes FF mines (skull and crossbones), medic box drops, support drops, etc. Basically anything that should have a 3d icon, has the possibility of not having one. Also, enemy versions of all these things will SOMETIMES show on your HUD. I've tested this thoroughly and its a real issue.
It seems to have the worst effect on important things like squad beacons. Sometimes I can't find mine when I need to pick it up, and sometimes I can see the enemies. Sucks.
On another note, I really tried to give the gunship a chance and fly it exclusively for a round the other night. I came away completely underwhelmed.

Re: Known bugs
THe bug I hate the most, which ruins our TG gameplay when it occurs (which is probably about 40% of the games I play), is when you are no longer able to spawn on your squad leader, even if he doesn't have a becon deployed.
There is just no green icon option on your spawn map at all. And what sucks even worse, is you can't exit out of the spawn map and then hit 'M' to see where your squad leader # is to at least spawn as close as possible. Your spawn screen will pop back up, not allowing the map to show.
Every time this happens it puts the squad I'm in in total disarray. No one knows where the squad leader is or where to spawn. And if you're assaulting - forget it. When this happens your squad is pretty much only useful in defense.
Anyone know if their is a fix for this bug in game? It appears to resolve itself once a new round loads.Telorn

Re: Known bugs
The two things that bug me most are the red name bug -- why is this still an issue? -- and the way that if you have the map open when you're revived (i.e. when you're trying to find a reasonable spawn point) the map'll stay up and you'll be incredibly disoriented and most likely get gunned down again.
Oh, and the server crashes. Those suck gigantic balls.2142: |TG-Irr| Silverfish

Re: Known bugs
Telorn, this isn't a bug.
It's by design, and it makes sense. What happened was your SL put the beacon down, and it got destroyed. When this happens you cannot spawn on your SL.
The SL can either A) put down another beacon (can be resupplied) B) Die and respawn. C) Put down another beacon as in A), then pick it right back up and people can spawn on him.
It is intentional and helps limit the power of the beacon. It now means if you destroy a beacon, you destroyed that squads ability to spawn (barring he does something aforementioned).
This is why, as an SL, you need to manage "beacon use" by constantly keeping tabs on its status. Often times, you need to go pick it up and re-place.
As for your map issue. I've never experienced that. I don't use the M map button though, I just use the squad screen, which shows what you are looking for.

Re: Known bugs
It feels like the spawn screen has been changed to behave differently than BF2. Whenever I'm choosing a spawn point, it spawns me when the timer has finished despite having the spawn menu open. The problem is I haven't picked my new spawn point so I end up not where I want to be. It's not really a bug but I hate the way the spawn screen works now. I used to curse in BF2 for dying so much but now I curse when the spawn screen does something I don't expect.

Re: Known bugs
You say that when the SL dies and respawns that you are then able to spawn on them? That's the bug. They die and you still can't spawn on them nor can they put a new beacon down.
You can only spawn on them when a new round begins. Unless when this happens my SLs happen to not die for 20-30 minutes some times until the round ends, which I find unlikely.Telorn

Re: Known bugs
Well, you are only able to respawn on them if there is not a beacon down. If they spawn, and the beacon that was down, is still down, then gets destroyed, they will have to die again to be able to spawn on them.
If there is no green spawn on the map at all, that is what happened (assuming the SL is alilve). If there is a green spawn but its red and you can't click it, thats something else.
Once I realized the rules of the spawn system, I've yet had absolutely no problem with my guys being able to spawn when I think they should be able to. I find it unlikely its a bug vs your confusion if you say it happens ~40% of the time.

Re: Known bugs
I'll be sure to tell my SL that next time and then promptly shoot him in the back of the head. But I know my SL has died before with the beacon being distroyed and he couldn't place a new one down nor could we find him on the map to spawn.
As far as never being able to spawn on him again for the rest of the map, that's probably 10-15% of the time. The other 85% of the time when you can't spawn on your SL is probably due to issues that you mention, since after awhile we'll be able to spawn on our SL again.
You've never had an issue placing a beacon down *after* your last one was destroyed and *after* you have died?Telorn

Re: Known bugs
I remember it this way too. One solution was for the SL to leave and make another squad or rejoin the same squad to fix the problem. On the Berlin map our squad beacon was place under the monorail and we couldn't spawn on it. So the rest of the round was spent fighting our way back to the beacon to destroy it. In hindsight we should have swapped squad leaders.
The other note: I was the gunner for BHack in the above meantioned round. I managed to kill 2 things with the TV guided missle. Only through Stuka diving tactics where my missle had no choice but to hit a tank. The missle seems to react exponentially to movement as it travels. I was pretty fair with the TV guided in BF2.

Re: Known bugs
No, I've never had that issue and i'm SLing 90% of the time I'm playing.
If he couldn't put the beacon down its 1 of 2 reasons.
1. There is another beacon currently down.
2. He did NOT have a beacon. Meaning, he placed it, it got destroyed.
-A beacon is an item, and you only get 1 of it. You can be resupplied to get another.
LuckyStrike - your problem was different. You couldn't spawn on the beacon because of bad placement. It's finnicky about where you can lay it down. It doesn't like having things OVER it. If the pod can't come all the way to the ground, it generally won't let you put it there. This is the SL's fault. As soon as I put a pod down, I check the squad screen to make sure it's spawnable, if not I pick it back up and place it away from overhangs.

Re: Known bugs
my 2 cents
if beacon is destoyed you cannot spawn on SL until he gets a new beacon from supplies and puts it down or dies and respawns
if SL respawns and you have one flag and you cannot spawn on him then thats a bug, starting a new squad is probably the quick fix, rather then struggling till next round
another good tip is for SLers to check the sqawn screen when they place a beacon, if theres a red circle around it then it cannot be spawned upon, the general rule is there must be sky directly above the beacon

Re: Known bugs
BHack, I've had the bug a couple of times, it's real, and it's not the normal behaviour you are thinking of. Something happens where the game doesn't let you spawn because the beacon has been destroyed, but another part of it still thinks the beacon is active so it doesn't let you put a new one down, or let anybody spawn on you. It's very frustrating, and there's no apparent way to fix it other than giving someone else the SL seat.
It's not the beacon being in a covered place (because then the spawn point has the red ring around it), nor is it the beacon already down (the spawn point is missing entirely) and neither is it just not having one on you (you can hold the beacon and try to throw it down, it just spams the message without actually deploying it).
It's like the game stores the state in two places... and sometimes it only gets updated in one when the beacon is destroyed.

Re: Known bugs
It was different in that one instance. That's why we had to fight our way back to it. Our SL knew it was bad placement but got killed right after he placed it.
I have seen the bug where the beacon was destroyed and the squadleader has died and respawned several times and there is no squad spawn point on the map for the rest of us. There isn't even a 'blocked' squad spawn point.

Re: Known bugs
Never had any problems once I figured the system out, nor has anyone in a squad i'm leading ever said anything. Weird.
