Where is Berlin?
Has Berlin not been on the map rotation in Conquest? I can't remember playing that map in quite some time. It's one of my favorite maps and I'd like to see it played on the server.

Re: Where is Berlin?
I remember I used to see a lot of server crashes on Berlin and Minsk, and haven't seen either for a while. Maybe that's the reason.

Re: Where is Berlin?
i dunno, i'd like to see as much variety as is possible.
the game already comes with what, not even ten maps? and most of them are so similar they just bleed right into each other...i've probably logged 30-40 full rounds now, and i couldn't identify a single map from memory....

Re: Where is Berlin?
B, two things:
1) I'd agree with you that Berlin and Minsk's are brutal fragfest's but also are Camp Gibraltar,Tunis Harbor and Cerbere Landing which are still in rotation. In my opinion, Camp G and Cerbere Landing might be the worst of the bunch. It's always a bottle neck, it seems, which leads to my next point..
2) Has there been anymore movement on reducing the player count to 48? The main problem seems to be the amount of players on stated maps. Having 64 players on, say, Camp Gibraltar, is just way too many players.
I say, to offer a solution, let's roll the 48 player cap out and see if it changes the gameplay.|TG-9th| TheFatKidDeath

Re: Where is Berlin?
FYI. User made maps will not go on the ranked server. That is a violation of the EA terms of running a ranked server.

Re: Where is Berlin?
I like Berlin and Minsk even as the attacker. For Minsk you need to get to a back flag with a squad beacon with the gunship. For Berlin you have to get in an APC and blast past that choke point immediately. Before the defenses are set up.
Remember Battle of the Bulge for 1942? Very hard for the Germans to win. But it was possible.
It always bugged me when people would only attack/defend the hotel flag on Karkand.

Re: Where is Berlin?
EA has just really ruined it for 2142 with their ranked server restriction crap, huh?
I think with changing the server to 48 player cap, the smaller maps (like berlin) will be more manageable for the assaulting team to break through and take a hold. Granted, then I think some of the larger maps need to be 32 player...but let me guess...the ranked server won't let you run some maps at 64 and some at 32?

Re: Where is Berlin?
No problem on population. You can run a lower poplation restriction than default mapsize.

Re: Where is Berlin?
I'll have to doublecheck this when I get home, but I think it is technically possible to set the populationlimit on a pr. map basis.

Re: Where is Berlin?
Really? It'd be kind of a bummer to be in the bunch of people who get kicked when the player size goes down, and it'd not help the popularity of the server.

Re: Where is Berlin?
It would be unacceptable, actually. We will not be using dynamic player counts on the server, unless for some reason we end up going with mixed mode games.

3) Support game play in a near-simulation environment. Where the focus of play would not be solely on doing what it takes to win, but doing so utilizing real-world combat strategy and tactics rather than leveraging exploits provided to players by the design of the game engine.

Re: Where is Berlin?
I agree. If you lower the population on some maps to say 32 you would be getting half the people on the previous map kicked out of the server.
One other quick question. Does EA consider say giving the assaulting team on berlin that first flag at the begining a mod to the map?

Re: Where is Berlin?
Let's just keep this clear: there is no talk about dynamically adjusting playerpopulation between maps. If we reduce maximum players this will be done across the rotation. Regarding my previous answer concerning setting playerpopulation on a pr. map basis, I was simply going to answer if that is technically possible with the BF2142 server.
