Mines and FF
I noticed on the Conquest server that the setting has been changed. We all have to be careful around friendly mines now. I don't remember it being like this before. Is this a permanent setting change?
I was thrown off yesterday thinking it was ok to walk around these mines and drop them where I pleased. Now, I know to be careful with mines.

Re: Mines and FF
Which mines does it apply to? Anti-personnel, rollers, or EMP? All?

Re: Mines and FF
HUGE!!!! I personally would like to see mines with FF on all the time. That you can drop mines literally anywhere on a titan or conquest server is crazy. I've seen entire teams of defenders all recon so they can put down layer after layer of mines.

At the very least to the APM's. Although, I noticed on the titan server that EMP's also affected friendly vehicles as well.

Re: Mines and FF
I can never tell enemy mines from friendly mines so I just avoid them all

Re: Mines and FF
Exactly, that's why I crouch past them (APMs) or just drive around them (EMP mines). If mine FF is on, I won't even bother carrying my APM mines. APM mines were my first unlock and I got so many teamkills with them it wasn't funny (and being auto kicked for too many punishes wasn't funny either).

Re: Mines and FF
I did not notice this playing last night but I'm against having the FF turned on.
1) Having FF on mines on our public server is going to cause more problems than it solves. Anyone who places mines better get used to having a negative score and get punished for teamkills, as Maus stated. This is not good.
2) This is my pet peeve. In BF 2 and PoE, even playing on a TG server with TG members, nobody really pays attention to placement of mines and having the FF on is a source of frustation. I can't tell you how many times playing BF 2 and PoE I've typed "Watch the mines at X flag" and someone whose not paying attention will run them over.
3) FF turned on WILL NOT prevent people from throwing down more mines.

Re: Mines and FF
After I noticed my negative score, I stopped placing mines and started looking out for friendly ones. I still ran into my SL's APM. I still have to get used to 2-3m not being enough to run past a mine...
I'd like to keep it on but it's just going to make everybody stop using them. Nobody wants a negative score and players not in your squad are going to accidentally run into mines. There just isn't a good communication method to warn each other where mines have been placed. The warning indicator sometimes doesn't show for friendly mines and the view distance for the indicator isn't that far either.
For the sake of enjoyable game play, I'd like to turn FF mines off.

Re: Mines and FF
It should be off until the HUD icons are fixed. As it is now, there is now way to accurately tell if the mine in front of you is dangerous or not.

Re: Mines and FF
Exactly what I was going to say.
FF on mines should be OFF until DICE fixes their friendly mine identification system. Forget 'realistic'. We could get into a debate on friendly fire being OFF is realistic. We are talking about 100 years in the future. Current day technology already has a way to identify individuals, it would just be too expensive now to make it practical (and secure) in setting of demolitions or not.
The in-game HUD system should also let you KNOW that you are around a friendly mine so you can start looking for it and NOT be blown up by it. This is the biggest reason I think it should be off. Most of the time you'll be killed by friendly mines because the HUD never warned you that you were close to one.Telorn

Re: Mines and FF
I dropped the round start timer by thirty seconds last night and I turned this on last night at the same time, being under the impression that it being off was an oversight. For the record, it only impacts EMP mines and APMs. These now behave the same as mines and claymores in BF2, and should be deployed with the same caution and care. Motion mines still ignore friendly vehicles.
Actually, this is backwards. BEFORE there was no way to tell if a mine is dangerous or not. Now there is. If you see a mine, you know it is dangerous.
