C'mon dudes, 1:30 to choose a Commander?

I love your server as I am a solid team player. However while playing very late at night/early in the morning, the server empties out because people don't want to wait a minute and a half while a Commander is choosen. Eventually, we didn't even have enough to continue. It was pretty disappointing because I had been searching for hours before I found a server where I was actually having fun.

Is there any reason why it would take longer than 20-30 seconds to pick a Commander?

By the way, if any good SLs want another team player in your buddy list, add me.

Re: C'mon dudes, 1:30 to choose a Commander?

I'd say it's highly unlikely people stop playing because they can't wait 90 seconds to start the round. It's more likely that people are just tired.

We feel that this time is essential to allow people to form up squads, choose kits and form a gameplan for deployment. It's not just there to find a commander. It's there to promote overall teamwork and allow the chosen commander to potentially give spoken instructions to SLs before they even start the round.

If we decrease the timer, we increase the likelihood of people not joining squads at round start and this obviously means less teamwork.

To be honest, I really don't get the people who can't wait 90 seconds. I mean seriously, people play this game for hours and hours. Why can't they wait an extra 60 seconds over normal to load? We have always used a long round start timer on all our servers and we find the benefits far outweigh the teeth-gnashing by a few impatient individuals.

Fair enough.

There wasn't much planning going on at 3:00 in the morning, but I can see how the 90 seconds would be effective with a full server at a peak time.

TG will be the first server I look at when I log on from now on.

Thanks.

Oh, and I'm in your buddy list. Look me up.

Additionally; It's going to take any player longer than that to disconnect, find a new server, reconnect, and get in the game.

If some people want to spend 240 seconds to save 60, there's not much we can do to stop them.

Those with slower PC's also benefit as their longer load time usually means the game has started before they get in

Though, I am impatient between rounds for that damn timer to count down, I think the delay helps divide the rounds better. You have some time to step back and think about what you are doing. It's too easy to get sucked into run and gun otherwise.

the long load time applies to just switching sides too

I think that is the key part. It is to allow more time for everyone to load up before the game starts.

Question Re: C'mon dudes, 1:30 to choose a Commander?

First, welcome Jake68 nice to see you found TG it's a great place to play.

Second, I've noticed on the Conquest maps that on alot of rounds the time for selection is sometimes LESS than 1:30.

Has anyone else noticed this?

This is most likely due to 6 or 8 (however many are needed to start a round) people loading the map faster than you and so the timer starts before you join.

Re: C'mon dudes, 1:30 to choose a Commander?

I find the additional time between rounds a benefit and was glad to see this feature included on the TG server. The delay in starting allows me to get into a squad, select a kit compatible with my squad-mates, and learn what our first objective(s) might be for the round. A quick start always results in me having to do this much later, which never bodes well for me, as I like to prepare and have a hard time just winging it and rushing into battle.

It only gets discouraging when playing at odd times, where everyone seems to complain about the lengthy timer. Of course, those rounds rarely involve much in the way of tactics anyway. What bothers me more is waiting for the round to begin, only to be left at the starting camp, as everyone decides to head off alone in a vehicle.

Re: C'mon dudes, 1:30 to choose a Commander?

I appreciate the extra time to setup my kits as well, since the system is bugged and never remembers my kit selection when I join the server or am switched sides for auto-balance.

It also prevents the annoying bug/overlook of spawning while you are trying to customize your kit. Nothing I hate more than trying to quickly add the new field upgrade only to spawn and have to wait until I die again to get it. If you're in the spawn screen, you shouldn't be spawning.

Oh, I'm so glad I'm not the only one that gets that. It never happened in BF2 but 2142 seems to randomly decide it's time to spawn when the counter runs out. That is not good when I'm selecting a new spawn point, customizing my kit or selecting a field upgrade.

The extra time is great between rounds. I usually load with one minute left but I tend to get in with ~20 seconds left because I check my round stats.
