Lightbulb The Fall of Berlin.

Hello everyone,

Wow, it's been a long time since I have visited this community. A day doesn't go by without me regretting not bringing Battlefield 2 with me to keep on playing with you guys. I have a lot of good gaming experiences on BF2 associated with this community.

So. 2142 Battlefield has been released, and many people have been given the opportunity to play it for quite awhile. Myself? I refrained from getting it on two grounds: One, I have too much school work to do, and two, I'm a little leery about the whole in-game advertisement thing.

The latter reason, though, I find myself caring less and less.

I've made my decision to rejoin the community at some point by the end of or at the beginning of next year by becoming a soldier on the battlefields of the future. I feel that 2142 engages me in ways that BF2 didn't, and that overall, 2142 is actually a really fun game, regardless of the obvious facts that not much has changed from BF2.

Anyway, my opinions about what kind of game 2142 is and is not set aside, let me get to the meat of my thread here.

In 2142 there is a map known as The Fall of Berlin. I would buy the game look into exploring that map myself, but I sadly cannot. Because my University has decided to inconvenience my online gaming with its new network set up I can't play many of my online games as well as I could last time. I'll take a brief moment to explain what exactly happens, but I don't know what is exactly causing it. I suspect it is their bloody router though.

When the demo of 2142 was released, I quickly rushed to go and get it and, I discovered, oddly, that there were very few servers that I could actually connect to. All the servers, even ones in my own country, cannot be connected to. And the ones in my country that I could connect to... Well, my latency is so high in them that I get a ping of over 1,500. This is no joke. I would post a link to a picture which proves this, but I can't because I haven't posted enough here on the TG forums.

Sadly, one of the servers which are out of my reach were the Tactical Gamer demo server for 2142 which was being hosted for a few weeks or so, thus I was unable to join you to enjoy the new game.

I suspect that this would reproduce itself even with the full version of the game. I cannot do anything about it because trying to get the University to revert back to its old networking system is like trying to destroy a tank with a pistol. It's not going to happen.

So, here's my question. I was wondering if some of our members here had any memorable moments of their TG experience in the Fall of Berlin map. I have a lot of good experiences with the Berlin map in Battlefield 1942, so I was wondering what was done with Berlin in 2142.

Thanks, that's all.

-Tychandrus.

Re: The Fall of Berlin.

In regards to not being able to play well on the University network connection, it is theire packet priority settings on their master router. Most universities will set email, web surfing, and intranet downloads at the top of the priority list and gaming packets are set to be dead last. So most university gamers will get 2000+ ping times. Then some universities block all game packets completely.

Personally, fall of berlin is my second favorite map. It's a city map, it has snow, there's more of a strategy that could be used, and overall it feels very much like urban warefare which is what I would think warfare over the last parsecs of land that aren't covered by ice would be like. I can't say I remember the original Berlin map for BF2 (if there was one at all...). But this one is definitely nice.

Ah, yeah, I remember why now. My room mate had gotten through explaining to me what they did to change their network and it sucks now because I can't connect to 89 percent of all BF2142 Demo servers.

There was a Berlin map made for BF2, it was made by a fan. I never got to play in it myself but I'm sure it was really good.

Are you going to get me some screenshots of your experiences in the 2142 Berlin map though? I'd really like to see it...

I'll try, need to figure out which key to use for screenshots, so I don't get killed trying to take one

Print Screen (Prt Scr). They get copied to a directory inside your 2142 profile.

Re: The Fall of Berlin.

I acquired a copy of the game yesterday and started up a solo game to explore the 16 player version of the Fall of Berlin.

All I can say is... It's beautiful.

The Fall of Berlin is actually an awful map that devolves into nothing more than a massive fragfest.

Gotta disagree. Berlin is one of my favorite maps as I like the urban setting. It's no more of a fragfest than Camp Gibraltar, Tunis Harbor or Belgrade. The new player limit has helped however.

Re: The Fall of Berlin.

I love city maps, and Berlin is my second favorite one. It's more of an urban settings, so tactics can be used and applied easily. Plus there's plenty of cover in case you want to "sneak" around.

Re: The Fall of Berlin.

I like berlin, but if your team is not performing then it turns into that fragfest chokepoint. But over all if PAC manages tobreak through the crossroads then it turns into a very fun map.

Re: The Fall of Berlin.

The thing about Berlin is, with a minimum level of teamwork it shouldn't be hard for PAC to break through at all. Dedicate a few snipers to clearing out mines then charge to the back with a walker and an APC. But it just never happens.

Re: The Fall of Berlin.

A great deal of pubbie snipers just do their own damned thing, playing their game-within-a-game by being "TEH SN1P3R!" and not contributing to the effort.

Taking out mines? Puh-leeze. That's a wasted kill!

*sigh*
