An odd bug I had last night

So we're playing Camp Gibraltar. I'm on EU. EU wins the round and we switch teams. You know how after you get switched teams at the end of a round it disbands all squads? Well for some reason, it automatically put me in Delta squad....before any other squads were formed. And the worst part was that I couldn't leave the squad! I kept clicking madly on the Leave button but it had no effect. I tried clicking on Create and it would just say "You must leave Delta squad before creating another squad!" People then started joining my squad and so I was like "well ok, whatever. I'll just deal with it."
.
.
.
.
But then I got kicked from the server for not joining a squad.

Re: An odd bug I had last night

That happened in BF2 too. It looks like you are in a squad but are not. It usually clears by the next round but the squadless kick happens first. So many bugs carried over from BF2.. so sad.

Re: An odd bug I had last night

I have had a problem sort of like this. I would need to spawn to either join or leave a squad at the beggining of a round.

Re: An odd bug I had last night

DICE is lucky this is a one-of-a-kind franchise without having any real competition. There are others like it sure, but not of its magnitude (player size/maps/etc). We have nowhere else to go, at least not that I'm aware of. I am interested in Quake Wars, though. Hope that pulls through and delivers.

If it's close to BF magnitude and more stable, I'll jump wagon in an instant. Hopefully TG plans on supporting QW. But until that better one comes around, I will keep enjoying playing BF through all the issues.

Re: An odd bug I had last night

the only way to fix this is to disconnect and rejoin or apply to commander, now if your commander you have to stay commander as soon as you resign it will put you back into the squad in your case delta

Hehehe just goes to show that 2142 is nothing more than a BF2 MOD...

Here is a quote from the 2142 1.05 patch changelog...

"- BF2142 showing up as Battlefield 2 in Windows firewall exception list fixed"

LOL... says it all really!

Wow. I didn't even know this was out there. I have to say that if this thing comes through I am going to be playing it.

I also like the fact that they put more than 15 minutes into developing their website.

One of the things that I believe BF series has it's that human element.

I've been thinking about this, what sets the Battlefield franchise apart from other FPS games? Surely there must be something like it... What about the other FPS games that TG plays? Why is this better?

Re: An odd bug I had last night

Battlefield can't really be lumped together with the FPS genre actually. You have to compare it to other large scale 'strategic war' type games. Of which, really, there are surprisingly few.

Battlefield 1942
Battlefield Vietnam
Battlefield 2(000)
Battlefield 2142
Star Wars Battlefront
Star Wars Battlefront 2
Planetside
Savage:Battle for Neuearth

Probably a few others I've missed as well.

Star Wars is 'difficult' to make more realistic. Unlike the BF series you can't pull up an official website telling you how powerful and (in)accurate the ingame weapons are in real life. Seriously. How do you make shooting people with a blaster rifle accurate without overpowering?

Planetside is a MMOFPS and thus unmodable. Its also pretty old so it'd be like playing BF1942 now.

Savage...is only strategic in the broadest sense of the word. It still has elements of an RTS game with resource gathering and tech trees. Also the maps are really really small.

Everything else is either infantry based, armor based, or too small to truely be considered srategic war.

Examples:
Infantry Based - Return to Castle Wolfenstien and RTCW:Enemy Territory.
Armor Based - Mechwarrior
Too Small - CoD - UO

Well if someone or a team of people decide to make a open source game with a similiar game model, then it would be competition to an extent, although I don't think they can use "copyright infringment" on the open source game.

Well that bug is annoying, although it has only happened to me once.

Re: An odd bug I had last night

Joint Operations is similar to the Battlefield series. The problem is it's more like a Battlefield 1.5. It doesn't have VOIP, limited squad features, and really odd physics. The game looked pretty good but it just didn't have that catch that BF2 managed to extend from 1942.

Well JO's marketing team, didn't push the bandwagon as hard as EA's marketing team did with BF2.

I had some good fun playing JO a couple years ago.

Re: An odd bug I had last night

JO was ok, but seriously BF has always pushed the social battlefield forward. Squad/CO designed into the game with VIOP channels is a huge step forward.. any mutiplayer fps that doesn't include these (Red Orchestra for example) is doomed to fail IMHO.

I'm very interested in the Mods coming for bf2142 such as First Strike and Battlestar Galactica.
