*sigh* I just realized something...

I'm bored as hell with BF2142.

I just find myself giving half-hearted effort when I play now. Maybe its the leveling-out of the rank treadmill (it was much more exciting when new unlocks came every three maps or so); maybe its the small-ish number of maps (which will undoubtedly be rectified in a few months with a snazzy BF2142 patch or expansion available from EA Link for the LOW, LOW PRICE OF $19.99!!! ;P) shared between the two modes of gameplay; maybe its the iffy performance of its servers for me; maybe its a culmination of these factors and more.

Not whining, just disappointed that it didn't hold my interest for very long. It's not a bad game, it just lost that shiny new coat of paint really quickly after playing Verdun or Camp Gibraltar for the 500th f'n time.

Hey Gillespie, try playing another game for a bit and switch off between 2142 and a few other games. Or don't play for a while. That hopefully helps curb your boredom.

Re: *sigh* I just realized something...

I agree with all the above...

1. Try another game here, that is one of the fabulous things about TG is that you can easily switch to another game and expect the same high-level of play from day 1. Just ask Ashen about his experience from WoW to BF2 and BF2142.

2. Try another type of game period, I personally playing a RTS game single-player at the moment for a bit different feel.

3. Once we start getting a decent number of people feeling burnt-out on a game, the scrims, password nights, monday night mayhems seem to pickup as ways to freshen-up a game.

4. Take a break from gaming for a bit.

5. I've always thought bf2142 would have a 3 month half-life, so it may be time to find a new game or look into some of the mods for bf2/bf2142, a few of which have a TG community already.

Agree with most of your point except this one, well...kinda. Bf2 has an incredible lasting value so I have no problem switching back into it but WoW is another story. I play pretty much all games that we have on this server except for WoW . Even after 3 years I still have certain resistance for buying, playing it. Call me a sissy for my fear of getting addicted to it, 'coz until now I dare not touching WoW for that reason alone.

I had WOW since beta, and I too find switching between 3-4 games the way to go in terms of keeping my gaming fun going. I suggest WOW to anyone that asks. It is a good universal games that can appeal to many types of players. FPS, Roleplayers, PvPers and everything in between.

My current games:
WoW
BF2 (havent logged in since 2142)
BF2142
NWN2
Oblivion

Play one of the other BF2 mods where the game is not about stats/ranking. There, the rounds can be longer and more rewarding, and without the onus of rank, the gameplay really centers around teamwork. The pace is slower but more strategic.

Re: *sigh* I just realized something...

I wouldn't go as far as saving I've gotten bored as I'm having a great time playing BF 2142 but it's always nice to mix other games into your play time. I do that with whatever game I'm playing with emphasis.

Mine:

BF 2142 - primarily
BF2 - PoE
Titan Quest
Valve - Half Life, Counter-Strike
FEAR

For a real change of pace cmon over to the PRM server. Tight rounds and teamwork and you actually have to think carefully, very carefully, about your tactics or you will be looking up at the sky more often than not. I've experienced some of the most immersive rounds of BF2 playing this mod.

We also have an excellent Call of Duty 2 server that relies on teamwork and tactics. The COD2 gang (including me) prides themselves on a server that is reality based both in name and in actual play.

I'm sure there are other TG servers employing the same playstyle but these are the two I'm involved with.

Tempus hit it on the head...take the ranks away and you are left with satisfying teamwork.

Re: *sigh* I just realized something...

I tried going back to POE last night after playing BF2142 for so long, and I hated it. Of course all I played was 2 armor maps, but they were painful.

What's thebreakdown like in BF2land? Not played since 2142 came out, and I have no idea if y'all are back on Vanilla, still slogging away at PoE, or moved on to PRM.

Re: *sigh* I just realized something...

I figure a lot of us are FPS fans around here, since that's where TG has its roots...is anyone interested in driving games though? It is a real change from FPS's...unless you're some sort of FAV ace in 2142. If I'm not playing 2142 or Oblivion, I'm on my XBox with Forza Motorsport. I don't have a Live subscription right now - mine expired a year ago and I haven't bothered renewing...but am considering getting one.
