Angry Ban for Knife Kills? Before you call me crazy, please read.

I just played a couple of rounds in the CQ server and became royally pissed. Everyone here who deliberately goes out of their way just to knife someone, please do not reply to this thread. For everyone else, please continue reading.

I am sick and tired of being in a situation with my squad or teammates, where we are being attacked by multiple enemy soldiers, and one or two idiots go out of their way to try and knife the enemy rather than simply mow them down with their primary weapon. This really ruins the normal feel of the TG server and the overall teamwork during the round. You rely on your teammates for cover.

Now, maybe a ban is a little too much but, I think that conveys my anger with the subject. I am sick of people and their badge whoring. I think those folks are as bad as the bunny hoppers.

Re: Ban for Knife Kills? Before you call me crazy, please read.

Funny that I did ran into a guy who knife fighting like a real man that is no hopping around. First one I have seen in age. We both ran outta ammo since I was a sniper and he just finished my mate with his Baur. So we whipped our knifes as a mutual reaction. I died, unfortunately. I missed on my first try at him and he just swipe me off and that is. Knifing can be very satisfying but it is always my last resort.

When I have my rifle noway I'm going for a cheap kill. And well, I don't know if it is just me, I have a much higher survival chance with the knife than a pistol. With the pistol I have to aim to compensate for the poor ROF. When the enemy has an automatic weapon that mean suicide, the knife gives me a chance to keep moving and quickly put my enemy down.

Re: Ban for Knife Kills? Before you call me crazy, please read.

I find the ROF for the pistol to be quite satisfying and the knife is an excellent backup weapon. However, I must agree with the OP even if I haven't seen such a situation my self thankfully.

I usually spawn assault medic simply because there's more to do with that class than just shooting the enemy. So I'm running around dropping health kits and hitting people with the defibs and all that jazz. I also use either the stock AR or VOSS on single shot simply because its usually faster to fire off 4/5 rounds in single shot at someone's head then it is to spray 15 and wait for the 5 rounds to hit. I sometimes find myself in situations where I've just downed 4-5 people with my AR, switched to my pistol, downed the medic that ran up and the person they defibed before running out of ammo, switch to rockets, downed the other medic and the person THEY defibed, and I find myself sitting there with empty weapons and a defib kit as another medic runs up and starts to defib.

I suppose I could reload my AR and go guns a blazing on them, but that's crucial seconds where the rest of the squad is coming around the corner/over the hill with revenge on the mind. Reloading the pistol would be faster, but those rounds won't do me much go against the counter attack. Grenades are an option, but I'm cursed with the "oh shiney!" factor of some teammate somewhere ALWAYS running after my nade to get a good look at it.

So *shink* out goes my knife as I run charging into the fray! Of course by 'fray' I mean the rear and by 'charging' I mean screaming "Oh crap oh crap oh crap!". I guess its reactionary to go with the weapon you can use (even if its mostly useless for the situation) instead of taking the time to reload so you can get back into the action.

Re: Ban for Knife Kills? Before you call me crazy, please read.

I'll normally use my knife if i'm trying to be sneaky sneaky. Titan Defense is a big knife fest for me for the sole reason that when people are hugging the Corridor entrance, they (on pub servers) aren't paying attention. So, out comes the knife, and you start from the furthest back guy. Knife one, two, 3, then someone notices. Out comes the Voss and another 4, 5, and if i'm lucky thats all there is hanging around. and i run inside the corridor for a med pack/ammo. Pending of course the teammates IN the corridor don't RDX me thinking my big blue nametag is the enemy.

There is certainly a time and a place for knife usage...killing snipers, especially when they are grouped together and you can do all of them quickly and silently, is a hoot. Running around wildly swinging getting in the line of your squadmates' gunfire and causing TKs is not. If there were to be a ban/kick rule on this, I would imagine it would have to be contextual.

We have already had this discussion and have decided that the knife kill only hurts your team. The same should carry over to 2142, for the same reasons as in BF2.

Re: Ban for Knife Kills? Before you call me crazy, please read.

If I see a teammate running head on at an enemy with a knife, I usually just shoot the enemy he is trying to knife. If you run head first at a guy with a knife, there's a 97% chance you're going to die and a 97% chance of looking like an idiot. I usually end up killing both of them, but that's what you get.

Altough I admit I once charged head first at a guy with my knife out in the first week of the game, but after dieing after every atempt I realised how stupid it was.

I'm starting to turn to the knife as engineer more often. In CQ, when you run out of rounds on the SMG, it tends to be much better now to pull the knife then wait for a reload, but that's only in the building or around the containers and stuff, In the open you're just toast.

As has been said, there's a time and a place. Gratuitous knifing Just Isn't Right™ but that ought to be clear to anyone familiar with the SOPs. I don't see any need for a concrete rule against knifing though -- common sense is enough. TG isn't about glory hunting, it's about achieving the objective. If you have an opportunity for a silent takedown then grab it, but otherwise leave the knife in your pocket.

edit: Though as DirtyLude says, there are occasions where you can justify a knife in CQB if you've already wounded someone and would otherwise be left vulnerable. Again though, it's commmon sense.

Re: Ban for Knife Kills? Before you call me crazy, please read.

I only use my knife for 2 things.

1. Taking out snipers, (as said before) when they are bunched up is the weapon of choice to avoid detection by the others.

2. To take people out on stationary guns when I am close to them. I find there is a greater chance to miss someone in a turret if you shoot at them, when you can just take advantage of their limited field of view to come around side and stab them.

Then again more often than not I use the pistol for this.

The pistol very underrated. Used in the right way it can buy you enough time to take cover and reload your main.

If you aim high in the chest with the pistol the recoil will put your crosshair close to the head.

Maybe an automated wordfilter kicked you off the server. PM an admin, explain your situation and you should be back on the server in no time.

This is way off topic, but I'm like that, I do off topic things. Anyway, Bommando, it was great playing with you last night. Cool accent, I wish I had an accent. I learned a lot. Sorry if I seemed a little noobish. I'm usually pretty good I swear =)

Bommando? Has an accent? Maybe only when he types.

Maybe you are the one with the accent?

Yes, 2142cc employs an auto-kick for potty mouth words (that's for next time's rant).

Will PM an admin, though, thank you.
