I think APM are fine too. Seeing as how you can actually walk right by them if you go slow. In BF2 if you breathed wrong they would blow up on you. Remember if you put one on a ladder in BF2 there was no way someone could come up it. Well if you go slow in 2142 you can actually get past it.

The APM are fine the way they are (altough still annoying). In BF2 I would always come up on one and know I was screwed (I would always be in a position that I am so close to the claymore that taking a step backwards away from it causes it to explode). The ability to crouch past them balances their effectivness.

That reminds me of the movie Sneakers, where the guy had to get past a motion sensor. Instead of some fancy piece of technology, they just told him to walk slowly.

On the other hand, it pisses me off to no end when I'm carefully crawling past an APM and some oblivious teammate runs up and sets it off. If you see a teammate slowly crawling around a corner LOOK FOR APMs.

I occasionaly take the defuser on titan assaults, but I can usually only get one or two mines/RDX's (at best) before a gung-ho teammate runs past me and trips the rest, or grenade spam from the 3 supports down the hallway splatters me against the wall.
As for the patch, I really wish they'd fix disappearing mine indicators, the bug where you can't spawn on your titan and your SL, and the bug where you get stuck in a squad and can't leave. Also, they need to speed up the CO screen. I'd like to CO more, but the non-responsive interface turns me off.

I just love the Motion/Emp mine combo. I always try to figure out what would benefit the squad and its objectives most and that kit just seems to win out for me. That being said if a SL asked me to carry a defuser rather than one of the mines I wouldn't hesitate.
Also when I'm an engineer I play with a "fix friendly stuff/get behind enemy stuff for a Pillium enema" mindset rather than a "defuse stuff around flags" mindset. =)
However IMI, the way you put it here is quite intriguing, maybe I'll give it a shot next round.

I'm glad this one is getting fixed
engineer vehicle scanner interfering w/ UAVs
When 2142 first came out we had on our server FF on for mines (motion mines & APMs) but friendly motion mines were attacking friendly armour. I hope they fix this.

With BF2 I get the impression that the patch team were new people to the code and not many of them. Also that they were given the task of adding more features rather than bug fixing. Then it was all rolled out without proper testing.
With BF2142 DICE/EA are saying that the patch team contain people who wrote the 2142 code. Task is bug fixing and not new features. Testing is done by the playing community.
