1.10 Patch Disappointment....

I was reading over the change-list for the upcoming 1.1 patch, and felt pretty disappointed. Anyone here that plays BF2142 knows of a number of bugs/issues that Dice really needs to address, but when you look over that 1.1 change-list, none of them are on there... Off the top of my head:

- engineer vehicle scanner interfering w/ UAVs
- excessive range of APM mines
- friendly indicator for beacons and sentries
- being "run over" ejecting out of an aircraft
- 'jittery' walker control

Here's the 1.1 info (I had to mangle the URL b/c I have less than 15 posts):

www_gamespot_com/pc/action/battlefield2142/download.html?page=1&sid=6162902&part=rss&subj=616 2902

I like how they include stuff like "slowed down news ticker" as if that were a real improvement that anyone was truly waiting for and that they had to QA.

Re: 1.10 Patch Disappointment....

Yes, I think that the biggest outstanding bug right now is the engineer vehicle scanner (PDS-1) interfering with the UAV. It's something that happens very often and completely disables two very useful team assets.

Maybe it's a complicated problem to fix and that's why they couldn't get this change into the patch. I'm sure that DICE is aware of it.

They are doing some things right though with the current patch, like giving gunships more of a fighting chance as well as improving the Ganz HMG.

Oh well - there's always the next patch. I think most of us are in BF2142 for a long haul so we should still get to see improvements in the near future.

I wish they would fix the vehicle scanner this patch but oh well. Its nice though that there going to knock off a second or two on the emp effect of the gunship. It should give them a fighting chance.

They did fix the vehicle scanner. They just didn't put it in the changelog becaue they are silly geese.

For whatever reason, I don't have the level of disgust towards DICE's performance with BF2142 that I did with the previous Battlefield. There ARE problems, but nowhere near the frustration of the bugs present during BF2's inception.

Is BF2142's team different than BF2's?

They fixed the vehicle scanner BHack? Are you playing the beta patch? If this is confirmed, then I am super duper happy!

I am kinda happy about the news ticker... am I the only one???

lol, as for the sentries, and squad beacon indicatores, they exist, you just have to look at them for a bit first. Are you expecting the icon to appear through walls and obstacles for you? Its unrealistic. Personally, they should have two different designs, or sounds for the two. What are the chances two warring armies have the exact same technology?

I have to agree with you on this. While there are always things I wish they'd fix which they haven't, they seem to be consistently fixing some of the most frustrating issues in the game. I was pretty pleased about the 1.10 changelog, even the scrolling ticker. I'd have to say I'm now confident that they're going to fix most of the little annoyances. On the other hand, I honestly don't expect the Titan lag to ever be fixed, so maybe my contentedness is more about lowered expectations than anything else.

If you read the community info in-game, it says that they have a dedicated update team to improve the game over time, rather than the somewhat uncoordinated effort they made in BF2.

I would mostly agree with you here, except do remember that it's an unlock. In all of BF2 and BF2142, I can only think of one unlock that differs in sound and appearance between sides: the SAAW. Still, that shows they have the ability to make unlocks look different for different teams, so perhaps it makes the omission even more damning! Another thing that should look different depending on the team are the beacons.

I think it's strange that both sides have massive fleets of the same ships, since both Titans are identical (except the EU titan has a sexy female voice while the PAC titan has a robotic female voice).

But the bug that pisses me off the most is when you touch any moving vehicle on any sort of incline you'll die instantly. I can't tell you how many times I screamed at my monitor while trying to RDX a tank and/or walker and instantly dieing for touching it.

Nice when you try to hop over a buggy that is near a wall too. Somehow that little pinch of skin will cause instant death!

I've heard someone testing the beta claiming this is fixed. Strange that they left this out of the patch notes if this is true.

Quote:
- excessive range of APM mines
Meh, I think it's fine the way it is.

Quote:
- friendly indicator for beacons and sentries
God yes, this is highly annoying to stare at a beacon and try to decide if you should shoot it or not. And then just when you think it's a friendly, a enemy lands behind you and kills you.

Quote:
- being "run over" ejecting out of an aircraft
Sadly I don't see this ever being fixed. Same thing with ground vehicles killing you at the slightest touch if they're on an incline. Same crap left over from BF2.

Quote:
- 'jittery' walker control
Ugh, yes please. Sucks when you're trying to shoot people and your walker is doing a dance.

Or get out, have an enemy jump in and the jittering will stop for him (this has happend once for me when a recon guy was trying to RDX me and I didn't notice him under me while my walker started to ice skate).

The wiki specifies 100m (>300'). That's a huge distance but optimum effective range is 50m, which is still a lot. The big problem is the distance required to detonate the device, which seems to be about 4-5m. I guess the future got rid of the uncontrolled mine ban.
