2142 Basic Training Session Discussion
Hi all!
After some discussion with a couple pe0ple, I am throwing this out for an open discussion. I was thinking it might be a good idea to get a couple "TG BF2-esque" Training sessions going for 2142. FreekyE has volunteered to run the current TGU modules, for those new to TG or just looking for a refresher on basic tactics, in 2142. Everyone is welcome and FreekyE would be able to schedule those modules at his discretion. What we were hoping for additionally, and hopefully some of our heavier 2142 players would be able to do this, is create a 2142 specific Training Session. The question though is, what would you like to learn about that is specific to 2142? We have a wealth of tremendous people and players here who can really help people in these sessions, but we need to know what specifically you would want to learn about! So, In short: 1) Would you like to and be willing to be involved in these type of training sessions? 2) What, specific to 2142, would you like info/practice on? Have at it!

2) There's so much I need help with... Armor is one of my main weaknesses, so I guess driving school ( ) and armor tactics would be nice. |

I could show people how to use Assault Rockets...once you get the hang of it, it totaly changes your perception of cover. There is a little bit of a trick involved. Plus forget thinking your safe on top of tall buildings.
I guess squad leader tactics too, but we have many SLs out there now who have got skilz! I would like to learn how you get TV guided missles to work in the Jeelos as i can not hit crap! |

1) I can help out some since I'm finally on winter break. I can teach the #1 most useful Squad Leader tactic: Cowering. 2) I vote for a workshop on effective squad communication. Granted, I talk WAAY too much when I SL, I feel people could benefit by learning about how to concisely communicate enemy movements, numbers, location, etc., without feeling like they're slowing down the action. Maybe I'm just annoyed at hearing "There's an enemy over there! No, no! On the left!" too much.

I hit a walker straight in the back once with a guided missile and it did not register the hit. ( I blew up the missile before impact manually ) on another run I hit a tank square in the front with the missile and it also did nothing at all ( I let the missile hit the tank without manual explosion )

Indeed, like Bommando said in another thread. Communication is necessary, effective communication is vital! Left is relative....east, west south...3rd building east of spawn, rooftop...is so much better. Last edited by experiment626; 12-15-2006 at 02:23 PM. |

2) I played alot of BF2, therefore not sure what to suggest. I am a fair pilot, but could use a bit of help there.

Re: 2142 Basic Training Session Discussion
I'd like to learn how to be more proficient at laying RDX on armor and such without dying whenever I try. Basically, working on the approach. Also, using the mounted MGs on Tanks, FAVs, and Air Transports when they're in motion, so I can learn to compensate for movement better.

2) A great skill to develop would be to train on the pivotal high-tempo operations for certain maps. Ex: a coordinated jeep rush in Camp Gibraltar and Cerebus Landing, a coordinated initial assault for the tower on Shuhia Taiba, etc. In short, we'd make pre-cooked recipes or "plays" that we have rehearsed ahead of time where there's a "cast" and a "script" which steps through a timeline what each player/actor is doing. Like in football, the commander would just call for a certain play to be executed, people would declare themselves a particular player, and wham--it all goes down. Granted, making one of these is a chunk of work, so I see making a few just for specific maps when the situation is right. To folks posting about improving comm skills... I'll fess up that I used to be a navy LT on a 688 sub, so I can share some formal communication tips if that'd help. I'm sure I'm not the only ex-military person here so I'm sure it's all been covered before... Andy Last edited by BZ55; 12-15-2006 at 03:20 PM. |

Re: 2142 Basic Training Session Discussion
I'd vote for flying for one, and I like the idea of SL school too. Neither of which I'm good at.
Now having a terrible k/d ratio, I can show people that...

I am not sure being in the Navy exactly counts as military service. Go Army! |

Edit: Although Bz55 was on a SUB! That is nothing to scoff at.
