The CO Pledge
Time to rant and rave.
My only beef with the tg servers atm is that 90% of the time we have non tg co's. They all seem to have the same bad traits that tend to irritate me.
1st Never have a mic. I dont understand this. It just blows me mind.
2nd Spamming of orders. Time and time agian ill me and my squad will go for a back flag and the co will tell us to hit the same flag were ive already placed an order to attack/defend. The first time is understandable the co is just trying to get his points ok no problem there, But then they constantly spam the same order over and over.
3rd Co's thinking that they need every squad to hit one flag.
This is espicall annoying when me and my lone squad are holding a back flag and he gives and order to hit something on the other side of the map.
Anyways in sort i konw how we have a Learntg squad pledge I propose a pledge of ppl dedicated to the co position first and formost and will be the first to sign.

Re: This is giving me a headache
if there's no someone competent who's already doing it a lot (like Arfimus was yesterday) then I usually take a turn at it because it's probably the thing that i'm most competent at, but i can't maintain my interest more than a game, so I have to hand it off to someone else.

Re: The CO Pledge
Here! Here! It's to the point that my squad can not follow "pubbie" CO orders and expect to contribute. If I think the CO's orders are a taco short of a combination plate, I ignore him. Yes, I know this goes against 1 of our immutable laws, but, eventually he comes over to my way of thinking as I berate him over the comm channel. I know he would dearly love to argue with me, except for his lack of a mic!
To any TG guy who steps up to CO, my hats off to you, you are way under appreciated!!

Re: The CO Pledge
Let me pose this question, bearing in mind that a majority of us were "pubbies" before we found TG and admired its adherence to the Chain of Command and mature mindset:
What does the "pubbie" CO learn from your actions, other than the fact that he/she needs a mic? For example, if you ignore the orders, the commander will never know if what they had in mind could/would have worked. Like someone mentioned earlier, decline once and state your point. If the CO still orders you, then go. Provide constructive criticisms as needed. Just my $.02

Re: The CO Pledge
I'm starting to learn to comm, and I don't (and won't, frankly) use my mic. I understand that might be disadvantageous, but I've won all but one game I've commanded. Additionally, there are times when spamming orders is necessary to get an errant squad to follow instructions.

Re: The CO Pledge
In real life there are Radio operators (RTO) that the Squad leader and Platoon Sgt use to communicate with the CO.
(think Nam movies were the kid carring the phone pack is following the N.C.O. around while the Sgt. is screaming over the phone that is connectd to a cord going to the kid's pack.)
Anyway, maybe there should be a guy in the squad who can type fast in order to communicate with COs who do not have mics.
maybe give this detail to the medic or what ever kit on 2142 is dorment sometimes.
Hopefull the CO screen allows for this to come up easy like. In van it would not work at all.(PO3) Marcinko_R. (BF2 PR .509) Squad Member

Re: The CO Pledge
I'll Pledge to be a CO Commander and work my hardest on my free game time to get up to par with other good commanders.
I read in the tactics forum about what to do and not to do as a commander and will atempt to abide by the guildlines and do my duty.
I hope to prove myself usefull. If anyone ever has feedback about how I do anything, Please let me know. I don't get hurt from being critizied if it will help me.
Edit: after playing CO tonight, I know of a few things to work on. One thing is my communication. I'm a bit hesitent on giving orders. I always found a defencive role more effictive in my style, but sometimes you have to and jump the flag. I also need to work on saying "Commander to Squad 3" more. I just need to devlop a habit, which I hope your all willing to work with?Last edited by Mordona; 12-19-2006 at 12:18 AM.

Re: The CO Pledge
I think you may be mistaken about the seriousness of the situation. We are progressing to a flag "as ordered" by our commander. Before we are half way there, we are ordered to go and another flag half way across the map...in the opposite direction. I oblige, like the obedient SL, and less than a 100 yards from the 2nd "ordered flag"...he changes back to our original flag. I quickly correct his view of the situation...so he retracts his orders, and sends me to a fourth flag! This is quite common with a new commander on our server, as well as the infamous...send every squad to the same flag.
Now, I have no problem following orders once they are given, I can even alllow for a secondary change, third change in extreme situations but 4 and 5??? I try to educate them and make them aware of the situation, but with no mic to provide me with feedback, all the commander does is place another order...what are we up to? 6??? At that point the commander has lost all respectability, and it is only because I am crashing now that I ALT-TAB, that he is not booted from the commander slot.
Mercifully, they usually leave the command spot when they start to loose. A new TG guy like Revark or Flan will step up, but it is too late by then as the situation has become hopeless.
The chain of command is very important. And educating new commanders, just as important. You can't count on any TG squad to follow orders, even dumb ones...to a point. Let's face it though, there are some commanders who will never get a clue though.
P.S. Don't be shy about calling admin or other TG players to the carpet. We make mistakes and can be idiots sometimes, and it takes a new guy who is fresh from a "TG Rules and Regulations session" to point out our errors. As long as posts are polite, I have no problem with opposing views. Nor do any other admins. Bomm will shut us down with a hammer if we ever get to the name calling

Re: The CO Pledge
Once in a while I'll find myself doing this. Also the Commander GUI is a bit confusing at times and I select the wrong squad. I also might do this when I need a choke point covered and squad 4 is not taking my order. I try and dever from this as mush as possible unless I believe I have a justified reason. I think to myself What would Jep do?

Please get on the comms if I make a order that seems random and ask me why. I like SL's that talk to me. I usally get 2 out of 5 SL's that talk to me. and it makes it very frustrating as CO. I would get on TS and report it, but every round it might annoy admins? I dunno. maybe I'm to shy

Re: The CO Pledge
Teamspeak is there to report violations... and CO's and SL's not following "Orders" IS a violation...says so in the spam messages. DO NOT be afraid to ge on teamspeak and get an admin, neither I nor Jep have any problems booting smacktards. Just be patient after you "ask" (TELLING us what to do is the fastest way to find yourself staring at a Admin kick screen!), as we like to play too and in my case, I have to leave the game and fire up 2142 Control Console (Jep is quicker, he has a second laptop fired up THPPTPTPTP!!!!)
