Every squad leader needs an Ultrablue
How many times as a squad member have you been pushing into enemy teritory and your squad leader goes down, he's not revived and you all have to respawn at a friendly flag and start the attack all over again.
How many times as a squad leader are you pushing your squad forward but they seem to be getting tied up in mid/long range fire fights instead of moving, then you go down, call out on VOIP for a revive that doesn't come.
Then one game on cerbere landing I set up a squad attacking up the hill as PAC. Ultrablue joined my squad, i knew his good reputation and i was frustrated by lack of revives as SL. So I asked him to be my personal medic. It's a tough map to assault uphill and they were defending tightly. But I need not of worried I had my Ultrablue by my side. Right away were're under heavy fire on the hill, I'm down, Ultrablue is there with the revive. I'm making a break up the road, Ultrablue is by my side. It's a fast push, most of my squad are left behind, there's an unexpected contact around the next corner, I'm down, Ultrablue fell's that badguy then I'm revived. My respawning squad are joining us, we're getting back to full strength. We were the squad that broke through and we had the satisfaction of that. i won't have done it without my personal medic. The whole round Ultrablue is by my side ready for the revive. If you want to be popular with squad leaders then be their personal medic !
Basically he just follows me around constantly, if i was standing by a crate then he's right beside me, if I move around to the otherside of that crate then he moves around too.
How to be a squad leader's personal medic- Your responsibility is to keep the squad leader alive, you may or may not kill enemies but that doesn't matter, if the SL is alive then you are successful in your duty
- You flick your eyes up to the mini-map ever 1.5 seconds, so you constantly know where the squad leader is.
- If your SL is on the 1st floor then you are on the 1st floor. If your SL is on the second floor then you are on the second floor. If your SL is covering behind a wrecked car then you are their too. If your SL is in a jeep then you are there too. It's like some kinda of love song, whatever they are you are.
- You spend an inordinate amount of time running right next to your SL with your medipack in your hands, so that he is constantly at full health.
- If you are enaged in combat and your SL moves then you disengage from combat and take off with your SL, you leave the enemy to the rest of the squad.
- If your squad is near a flag and the SL orders "bodies on the flag" then you rush in if the SL does, if he hang's back to be the spawn point then you hang back too.
- If you die in a revive but your squad leader is revived & escapes enemy fire, then you died a noble death of a personal medic.
and I know Bommando is a big fan of Ultrablue, he will definetly have a few things to say !

You know what's better. An SL that doesn't die.

Re: Every squad leader needs an Ultrablue
I really appreciate this post alot. I am still learning my roles as a squad member and is something that I am used to playing in WoW. Everyone has their role.. Healer.. Tank... Damage Dealer.. etc etc.. I play assault kit alot and this helps me understand that kills while important... is not as important as keeping your SL and squad alive...
Thanks Silver for the post!! ++Rep for JooLast edited by Ashenhart; 12-18-2006 at 05:09 PM.

Re: Every squad leader needs an Ultrablue
You should always be asking yourself "where is my squad leader?". A squad that sticks together wins together.

Re: Every squad leader needs an Ultrablue
I would love to aid my squad with a Recon drone, or gun drone...but alas, I have no Ultrablue so I must rely on my beacon. If i stayed out of the fight, that is 1 less weapon when it could be all that saves us. So in a Learn TG squad, where half of your squad is pubbies...I would suggest a beacon, and lead your squad from the front. Not that I will complain if someone wants to be my Ultrablue!!!

I tend to be the ultrablue to my squad lol, and while effective the recon drone just draws a big red target on you.

Re: Every squad leader needs an Ultrablue
Yeah. It's common sense. I've seen quite a few instances of assault players completely ignoring their role as medics.
In fact, I have a personal priority of revives within the squad:
1. Squad Leader. Obvious choice.
2. Support. Gives ammo and lays down suppressive fire.
3. Engineer. Anti-armor.
4. Assault. Other medics.
5. Sniper. Haha. :P
The order might change depending on the situation. If a tank just wiped my squad, then I'll revive the engineers first. If a crapload of guys just died, I'll try to go for the medics first to help with the revives.
This requires you to keep a tab on who's playing which kit, but it helps a lot in different situations.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blah blah blah.

Re: Every squad leader needs an Ultrablue
It was a humorous post, but the point is still there. Assigning someone to be the SL babysitter should not be needed. It should be any and everyones job with a defib to revive the SL when he/she goes down. Though a recon drone does make an SL a target, I see plenty of non-recon drone SL's wade carelessly into battle yelling at their medics to revive them.

Re: Every squad leader needs an Ultrablue
Yeah I have been stuck with this war surgeon thing since BF2. As long as the SL is cooperative I would fight with a fanatical zeal to keep him alive.
Personally I do prefer the beacon over radar in infantry maps since it is extremely hard to move to a forward point without getting killed. Putting it somewhere in between the way will make the assault much more successful.
