Command Screen Ques

I'd like to say that I'm starting to not suck when I play commander, but I have one question that I just can't seem to find the answer to, no matter how much I google around...

On the squad leader drawer in the upper-left of the command screen, it shows each squad. The icons, in order, are: squad number, the squad's current order (attack, defend, etc), a little speaker thingy, and a radio (for easy quips). So, my question is, what's the little speaker thingy?? As far as I tell, it seems like some kind of a mute toggle b/c part of the icon is a speaker. Thing is, it's not clear what the icon denotes (in both states), and there's no way to test it. One state shows a little speaker with an exclamation point and the other state shows a little speaker with hatching. Anyone know?

Thanks,
Andy

Re: Command Screen Ques

I thought those were indication that the SL has a mic or has the VOIP enabled.

You can click on the speaker thing and mute that SL but not recommended though since that muted SL might want something.

It was the way it was in BF2, I have not even touched CO chair in BF2142.

Re: Command Screen Ques

If you look at the speaker icons and someone is speaking, their speaker lights up. That's the only thing I've noticed about it.

Re: Command Screen Ques

I think it's a mute/unmute button. I remember once I was COing a game and I wanted to use the little radio tab, but I accidentally clicked on the speaker tab. As soon as I realized my mistake, and unclicked the speaker, the SL voice abruptly started talking, mid sentence, as though I had just unmuted him. I could be wrong, and it could be just coincedence, but that's really the only time its happened.

If at first you don't succeed, you need more firepower.

There is nothing wrong with feeling something when you shoot your enemies... as long as that something is recoil.

Interesting... It seems like a misplaced feature though. I'm trying to think when, as CO, you'd want to not hear what squad leaders are tying to say (it seems down-right dangerous if you think about it).

In any case, I definitely want to figure it out. It kills me that the toggle hotspot is next to a ton of other hotspots that you regularly click on, so I often accidentally click on them. I feel faint just thinking that many games have gone by where I had squad leaders muted without knowing it, ugh. *puts on asshat*

I think it is a mute button. You can do the same with squad members in the squad screen.

It's a mute button for COMMs channel. You can still hear the squad. But they will not hear you when you use the COMMs (b key). They will still hear you when you use the V key.

Case scenario. you need to tell squad 4 and 7 to goto this flag and defend. Insted of flooding the COMM channel on 5 other squads. you can mute them out and only talk to 4 and 7. Thsi does take time and confusion of forgeting to unmute them. I call out squad #'s and leave it at that.

The one that looks like a TV box... (best I can describe it) lets you commend, rebuke, etc to a squad. Took me forever to find it.

That's if you use the right mousebutton on the TV thingy. If you use the left it mutes that squad's from reciving COMMs from the CO

Ok, thanks Eroak--that def makes sense. I still need to put on my asshat b/c I've been using COMM (vs. V) when I've been CO, but better to learn this late than never!

Theres a fine line between flooding the COMMs and letting all the squads know whats going on. The rare time I SL I love a talking CO who lets the squads know whats going on. But then again when I CO theres so much I can say it would drown out the SLs and they never hear anything a SM have to say.
