If you are into death match run and gun then 2142 is probably a good choice. 2142 is twice as fast as BF2 and the maps don't really let squads spread out and try different maneuvers so everyone gets bunched up and it's a slaughter fest. You also need to keep in mind that if you do get 2142 be prepared to die A LOT in this game. Since you won't have unlocks like everyone else in the game you are in an even more of a disadvantage. I would recommend if you decide to get 2142 find some rank restricted servers and play there as long as you can because once you get to playin with the big boys on TG it's a death match type of game that caters to the ones with the most unlocks and knowledge of the maps. JMHO
I have to disagree here too. When I first logged in 2142 I was overwhelmed. The gameplay is much faster, but dying alot?! Not really, especially playing in a TG squad. There is about a 2 day learning curve from BF2 to 2142, but once that is over the game plays way better. There are more tactics you can use in 2142. With the way the squad leader unlocks work, emp, motion, etc.

Bunched up? On a couple of maps, but no different then Karkland. Other then that, it is just simply knowledge of a map.

Key points here. Small adjusting curve, I logged in 30 minutes on release day and didnt go back for a week. My first hours of 2142 I would get 3 kills and 12 deaths, now it is reversed. Dont let people say there are no tactics. I can only guess they havent been in a TG lead squad. You get in a good squad, the tactics can be amazing! Not to mention if you throw in a good commander!

As I said, if you are not hurting for cash, it is a worthy buy. 8.5/10

I havent been going back to BF2 or any Mod of it for longer than 1hr after I got 2142. The Gamebalance is nice. A Full Teamworksquad really is a more powerfull force than in any BF Games before.

I think both games are pretty much the same when it comes to squad tactics. But, POE/BF2 games at TG completely outdoes 2142 when it comes to strategy. Nothing beats the 45-60 minute epic battles raging between 62 players.

Obviously a lot of people do, considering the POE server is full most evenings. And playing 3-4 rounds of 2142 is going to be the same amount of time, just the battles aren't as long and memorable.

Yeah, the epic battles are definitely missing in 2142. But with the gameplay so accelerated, I doubt I could handle a 45 minute round here without getting burned out.

I also think the tactics will be better as the game goes on. When we all first started playing 2142 tactics were shaky, as the game goes on, we develop better tactics. Give 2142 a year or 2 life BF2.

Edit: I really need to try out POE, downloaded but havent logged in yet.

I hated POE2 except for the fallen map and was it me or the weapons on each side were freakishly unbalanced?
