Re: Worth buying 2142?
I'm pretty sure this has been discussed before.
For most people in this forum, I think the answer is yes. Although the gameplay is an evolution, and not revolutionionary, I can't go back to BF2 or even POE2.The Dirty

Re: Worth buying 2142?
I had bf2 on release date. BF2142 on release date too. I have not logged in BF2 since I got 2142. *shrug* It is better IMO.
The unlock system adds a nice dimension to the game, and the fact that teamwork is rewarded via points is nice.

Re: Worth buying 2142?
It really depends on what kind of game you like Ben. If you are into a bit slower game with more tactics then stick with BF2 and POE. If you are into death match run and gun then 2142 is probably a good choice. 2142 is twice as fast as BF2 and the maps don't really let squads spread out and try different maneuvers so everyone gets bunched up and it's a slaughter fest. You also need to keep in mind that if you do get 2142 be prepared to die A LOT in this game. Since you won't have unlocks like everyone else in the game you are in an even more of a disadvantage. I would recommend if you decide to get 2142 find some rank restricted servers and play there as long as you can because once you get to playin with the big boys on TG it's a death match type of game that caters to the ones with the most unlocks and knowledge of the maps. Yeah, just to provide different perspectives, I would say I have to agree with Drizzid. I gave 2142 a try but it just wasn't my cup of tea.

Re: Worth buying 2142?
I'd have to respectfully disagree. I've been playing alot of BF 2142 and recently downloaded the new maps on POE. I've been going back and forth between the two games and I've realized that for some reason, POE seems faster! Can't quite put my finger on it but it seems like the games is just, well, faster! Try it and see for yourself.
I would not say it's night and day, but somewhat of a diffrence for sure. I think the reason some would say that BF 2142 is more of a deathmatch is because some of the maps are tighter than BF 2 and POE.
I like all the BF series for different reason so if you like playing the Battlefield series, I would recommend BF 2142.|TG-9th| TheFatKidDeath

Re: Worth buying 2142?
I play 2142 as well and it can be a nice breather from POE but I haven't put that much time into it but what experience I do have seems to me that it is just to fast and it might be because the maps are not designed well. Also why I think the game is death matchy and fast is due to the unlocks, especially the ones who have the camo. The first time you see it you think your GFX card is on the fritz 8/ Also I haven't seen or heard of any tactics since I have started playing. I have heard SLs give commands but I haven't seen any kind of squad based tactics and this might be due to 2 factors. 1) at the beginning of every round all squads are broken up and you are constantly adjusting to new players in your squad. 2)The maps don't allow squads to set up any kind of tactics. You rush the flag and hope you out twitch your opponent and hope there isn't a walker around.
That is why I suggest to anyone who wants to start playing 2142 to go to the rank restricted servers and stay there. That will at least give you the chance to develop your knowledge of the game and maps and give you some unlocks.
Again these are just opinions of one person and really does come down to what kind of game you like to play. Once you answer that then you can make your decision easier.

Re: Worth buying 2142?
Though 2142 is fater paced, I disagree that it's more run and gun than tactical. I've been in some really awesome games that put some of the BF2 mod games on TG to shame as far as tactics and teamplay are concerned.
Other than the now dead PR mod, this is by far the best game title on TG as far as tactics go. You just need to make sure you're in a good squad with a good SL. I have a lot of fun here.
Simply put...
BF2 = Mostly bigger maps, slower play
BF2142 = Mostly smaller maps, faster play

Re: Worth buying 2142?
My first weeks on 2142 left me with the experience of constant dying from nowhere, pure fragfest, etc. After some more time of adjusting, however, I can see the appeal in the game and I no longer notice how fast-paced it is, etc.
But it is, no matter what, a faster game than the regular BF2/PoE2 games, IMO.

They are both good games. I am a better player at BF2 then 2142 but thats probably because the medic kits aren't insta-heal like BF2 =P

Re: Worth buying 2142?
BF2142 is a more infantry friendly BF2. The maps are smaller and have more cover with less dead space. There's plenty of well placed (useful) AA and AT guns. On top of that a lot of little balance tweaks in how things like light machine guns, mines, etc are used that really gives the game more depth.
What I really enjoy now is that the maps don't spread the players so thin. Cooperation between squads is much more common, you see more moments when an attacking squad runs into the defenders and then gets whiped out by another defending squad that manuevered in on the flank. It really allows you to use the entire map when you don't have to assign every squad to a different flag to achieve ticket bleed.

Re: Worth buying 2142?
Definitely smaller maps with more people bunched up. It's a faster game in the infantry maps. I agree that a starting player can be easily overwhelmed and discouraged. I sure wish we could increase the ticket count.

Re: Worth buying 2142?
The maps are designed to siphon everyone to one point and slug it out. So the cooperation between the squads is kind of a false know mer. It's to easy to out flank an attacking squad when they are already engaged with another squad at a choke point when your team controls the choke point. What I really enjoy now is that the maps don't spread the players so thin. Cooperation between squads is much more common, you see more moments when an attacking squad runs into the defenders and then gets whiped out by another defending squad that manuevered in on the flank. Most everyone who has played this game for any length of time knows where to position themselves for the greatest advantage. As more people learn this then the more it clogs the area up. Which creates these mega death match slugfest fire fights.
Again it is a matter of preference and although I will continue to play 2142 and hopefully with my 12th brethren. I will continue to use 2142 as a breather to POE. Goodluck Ben I hope this thread has helped you make your decision easier
