Targeting Assist?
I don't jump into the walker that often, but last night I was in a walker on Sidi and saw a message at the bottom of the screen that said: "You got a targeting assist point."
Anyone know what this is? I've played quite a few hrs of 2142 and I don't recall ever seeing this before.|TG| TheSaboteur

Re: Targeting Assist?
I've gotten that too. I don't think I was in any armour at the time, either. I have no idea.

Re: Targeting Assist?
I've gotten it once or twice, but didn't give it much thought. I would guess it's from spotting and opfor that leads to a kill.

Re: Targeting Assist?
That's really curious since I thought targetting assists had been disabled.

Re: Targeting Assist?
yeah, it was really weird. So do you know what they are if you thought they had been disabled?

Re: Targeting Assist?
I'm thinking it's not anything but a bug. Similar to the Team vehicle damage indicator you get when you are nowhere near a vehicle and were never engineer, recon, or put out a sentry. They disabled it, but it sneaks by every once in a while in odd circumstances.

Re: Targeting Assist?
I got this message today, and I was wondering: does it have anything to do with being a recon, regarding the recon netbat fade delay? Just throwing out a wild guess here. I got this message while I was prone behind some crates, staring at them.

Re: Targeting Assist?
Not really, but some parts of 2142 are exposed as Python: the bits specific to scoring and game modes. If you skim through the scoring code, you'll see that it understands what a targetting assist is, but that the targetting assist stuff has been disabled (or, was supposed to be). Presumably it has to do with spotting people or something, but was very buggy and they disabled it before release. So while it might alert you that you've got a targetting point, rest assured that your score remains unchanged.

As a digression, skimming through those python files is pretty amusing. There's some pretty amateurish bugs in there.
