Re: Fewer TG playing 2142?
POE2 just released a mappack that's more infantry based. I went on there last night and noticed a few 2142 TG'ers.
EA/Dice have spread themselves thin with so many of their own products targeted towards the same audience. BF2/All the booster packs, Special Forces, BF2142, and now this new booster packs... It just serves to thin out the people on the servers that support each branch of the original. The Dirty

Re: Fewer TG playing 2142?
That's the negative way of looking at it. Them branching out gives us a greater chance of saving pubbies. Perhaps some future TGers only play BF2, or Special Forces, or only POE, well that gives them contact with the great TG way.
Silver lining eh?
Edit: If it wasnt for EA "spreading themselves thin" with 2142 then I never would of found TG. For example.Battlefield 2: Battlefield 2142: WoW: Oblivion: NWN2

Re: Fewer TG playing 2142?
I lost my 2142 steam the week before Christmas. Nobody was really interested in Titan more than once a week. Then R6: Vegas came into the picture and ruined everything. With Armed Assault (English) around the corner, my 2142 days are dwindling.

Re: Fewer TG playing 2142?
No, that's the realistic way of looking at it.
BF2142 isn't really a branch, it's an alternative. The booster packs and SF expansion pack were branches, which excluded everyone else. Rather than helping 'saving' anyone it just divided people. In those cases you can say we actually lost people.Edit: If it wasnt for EA "spreading themselves thin" with 2142 then I never would of found TG. For example.
Though you can say it brings more people to TG who want to play the TG style, it also makes it so that those who are dedicated to that style are spread over seperate versions of essentially the same game.
Teamwork on BF2142 right now is limited to 1 TG squad per team usually, or 2 at prime time. If you log into the PEO2 server the majority of people are playing using squads as they were meant to be used, sticking together and just about everyone has VOIP. Unfortunately the server only fills up at prime time.
What do you think will happen if we choose to run the booster packs on the second server? Will teamwork get stronger as some people choose to use the vanilla BF2142 server and some choose to use the booster pack server?
It's not negative or positive, it's just a statement of fact. If you choose to percieve it as negative, go ahead, but that doesn't make it so.The Dirty

Re: Fewer TG playing 2142?
Just like any of the other booster packs the maps are not being incorperated into vanilla, . If TG wants to run a server with the new maps it will need to be on the second server or it will kick people who do not have the booster pack when a booster pack only map comes up. People will have to choose whether they want to play on a server that plays the booster pack maps or one that does not. Some will choose to play on those servers that do have the booster pack maps and some will not.
Even if TG decides not to support the booster pack maps at all on either of it's servers, some TG regulars will go to other servers in order to play.
It happened with the BF2 booster packs, it will happen with these ones; it's not a guess, this will happen, so be prepared for it. The booster packs will lure some of the 2142 retirees back for a month or so, but inevitably people will drop off.
I am getting the booster pack as $10 is not a big investment for me and I would really like to have those infantry maps. The Dirty

Re: Fewer TG playing 2142?
granted people who dont have the booster cant play on a booster enabled server, but what i meant was was that you dont need a whole nother sever just to have the booster, you can have gibraltar on map and a booster map right after it...its not like special forces where you needed a second server

Re: Fewer TG playing 2142?
Exactly. I think I've only gotten to play once since classes got into full swing. Maybe I'll get a break in my load and be able to play more soon, but I'm already getting behind in my online class (besides my other 13 hours of classes, live sports broadcasts, movies I'm producing and acting in, and an upcoming intership).

Re: Fewer TG playing 2142?
I was on tonight late EST, say midnight until about 1:30 AM. My crap puter was choking a bit and I had to bail but there were quite a few TG on. I'd say maybe 20 people. I'd be on more but with puter issues and the GF demanding a bit more time I've been busy.

Re: Fewer TG playing 2142?
I gotta split my time between 2142 and POE2 now - those new maps for POE look great.

Re: Fewer TG playing 2142?
Booster packs suck because they split communities. The only good new maps come with patches.
When you can't run, you walk. When you can't walk, you crawl and when you can't do that, you get someone to carry you.

Re: Fewer TG playing 2142?
I'll come clean I guess...
Having recently sorted out my BF2 problem which was inhibiting all of my BF2 play since mid-summer, I have been playing POE2 and Project Reality non-stop, and haven't touched BF 2142 in 2 weeks. The new maps for POE2 are awesome, and even more awesome at least for me is Project Reality, hopefully v. 0.5 will be out soon... 2142 was just a little too arcadey for me... the smaller maps and the same old forced choke points can only entertain one for so long, so now I'm off to where the grass is greener, at least for now
