Die With Your Vehicle!
I am a very reasonable and mellow guy, but:
#1 Pet peeve and if I see it happen again, your kicked!! (BANNED if I had my way) for lack of teamwork.
If you decide to drive a piece of armor, walker, Jelo; a high dollar ticket item, more power to you troops. I applaud your skill and bravery, but make sure...YOU DIE WITH IT!!!
Too many people jump in a walker, take it up to engage the enemy, and when it is 75% damaged...bail out. The enemy promptly jumps in the walker and takes it to their rear lines for repair, and we are now deprived a walker. DO NOT fall prey to the "cat at the door" maneuver either. Someone runs up to a piece of armor, starts knifing it or pulls out a kit item to make you think they are planting RDX. When the driver panics and jumps out, the afore mentioned "cat" jumps in the armor and turns it on you.
You should not have been in a position to allow infantry to approach the tank without covering infantry (operating by yourself again were you, hmmm?). That being said, things happen on a battlefield. If you can not extract yourself from the approaching doom...cross your fingers, make sure your life insurance is paid up and prepare to meet your maker. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you bail out and attempt to engage the infantry in a show of good sportsmanship!!!! Even if he destroys you, rest easy in the knowledge that it at least cost him 3 of his RDX packs.

Re: Don"t Freaking Do It!!!
I totally agree. I just posted something similar to this on the "How not to annoy your teamates" thread yesterday. But this problem has been happening enough lately to deserve it's own thread.

Re: Don"t Freaking Do It!!!
I have never heard of this. Have you ever had it work. It sounds really cool and I want to try it on those times that I am trying to shoot up into the vent out of desperation nowing that I am going to get killed. If I could end up with a walker instead of a death that would be amazing.

Re: Don"t Freaking Do It!!!
That was a strategy in BF2 as well. If you were a medic or support, throw some med/supply packs at the tank. Often, a guy sees you running towards the tank with something in your hand, he will assume C4 and bail. It was a little easier then, but now, there's no way to mistake a med/supply pack for RDX.

Re: Don"t Freaking Do It!!!
I can't wait to try it!!! If it ever works I am going to get the names of who ever jumps out and they are never going to here the end of it. That would be way more satisfying than getting a guys dogtags. I want his walker

Re: Die With Your Vehicle!
I only bail on a vehicle when it's destruction is inevitable...that means I wait til I hear the klaxon sounding letting you know to get the heck out because it's about to blow. Most of the time I don't even get out in time.
BUT I must say I do love it when the bad guy bails out of his vehicle before it's time is up. I love a good futuristic carjacking! Speaking of that, I've had a lot of fun lately running up to guys sitting in their PARKED buggies and opening fire on them inside. Without fail, if they don't die, they freak out and bail...at which point I snatch the buggy and jet. Good times.

Re: Die With Your Vehicle!
I have a simple tactic:
Sometimes there are reasons to bail. Like the flag needs just 1 more second to go neutral but your walker has 20 HP left and is going down. Just ram your own Pilum or Rockets into the ass of the vehicle to make sure it IS dead. This way you have a chance to finish what you are doing without the chance of enemy troops capturing your vehicle.

Re: Die With Your Vehicle!
I actually saved a tank last night with only 1 health on it. Some team mate jumped out and left it for dead. As a good engineer I happened to be near and proceeded to repair it. So I got a tank that was otherwise unoccupied and proceeded to lay waste to the enemy on site.

Re: Die With Your Vehicle!
One tehnique is to have your own remote self-destruct device.
In BF2 it was C4.
Put one stick of C4 on the tank. If you need to bail, and then when they get in, hit the auto self destruct switch.
______
when doin a scrim and you are on tank detail. Always, I repeat, always die in your piece.
Reasons:
A. You can't take the risk of losing the precious piece.
B. If you hop out and survive and the tank blows, who will be there to get back in it when it respawns? The rest of the unit is doing other things and the CO assumes that his tank squad will be in the tanks. If everyone in the tank squad hops out and the tank still blows, then you have four tanks rusting away back at the base within a matter of time.
I know your instincts will get the better of you, but for the good of the team, dieing in the tank makes for better tactics.
_______
Cheers, and have a good'n.Last edited by Rick_the_new_guy; 01-24-2007 at 05:22 PM.

Re: Die With Your Vehicle!
Whoa, I don't play 2142, but kicking for abandoning a vehicle seems ridiculous. I mean, if I was in a tank IRL and it took a lot of damage or was disabled, I would try and escape. Guess I am missing something...
In BF2 I hardly drove tanks but when I did, if I bailed I always put an AT round into the rear to destroy it. I understand you hate it when people just leave them but kicking for it? It is not a lack of team work, it is trying to not die. Seems really out there. Guess it is just me, no one else seems to have a problem with it.
