I don't think so, it is a useful tatic if a couple of guys are camping the beacon. You can get far enough away to have a chance. Of course camping isn't right either but it happens.

I will kill a podder, but only because I haven't found & destroyed the beacon yet (getting rid of that damn beacon is always my first priority).
