What is up with EA and their ability to get the simple things right?
You get the 1st Lt. rank after warrant officer, then you get promoted to 2nd Lt??? What is this madness?? The last time I made the mistake of assuming 1st lt. was lower than 2nd Lt. was when I was a cub scout and ALSO got the Boy Scout ranks of First Class and Second Class mixed up.
EA should know better. It's not like its simple ignorance, but really, they did the modern combat BF games, they ought to know rank structure.
Dunno why this bugs me above the bugs they have yet to fix in the game, like game caused CTD, Squad Bug, failure for customizations to be saved, etc. It just does.
you get 2nd Lt. THEN get promoted to 1st. Lt. Not the other way around.

I like the fact that you somehow go from NCO ranks to Officer ranks without any other special training, or special unlock or something! AFTER SPENDING @) YEARS MAKING IT WO In real life, YOU JUST CAN"T GO TO 1ST LT!...

I just think its retarded, honestly.
And yes it seems to be a ridiculous thing to get annoyed about, but...it does anyway! You'd think that of all the things that EA could screw up, they'd screw up rank order....which is not a bug that may not be correctable, but an obvious, glaring ERROR that they ought to have caught before the game even came out in public beta.

I ve not been in the military but I ve known the general ranking structure since I was a teenager. You d think it would be pretty common knowledge. Did they get it right in BF2? I ve never played it?
I invited everyone at the office to play Battlefield, but it was a rather one side match when I was the only who brought an assault rifle to work the next day :-)

Once we get to the year 2142, you can check the PAC and EU ranking system and see if it matches up.
If it was a modern day based game, you may have grounds to gripe... But its a fictional game, with fictional nations.
They should have come up with all new ranks.When you can't run, you walk. When you can't walk, you crawl and when you can't do that, you get someone to carry you.

It actually bugged me to when I got 1st Lt then "Congrats you have been promoted to 2nd Lt" my first thought was what the hell is the crud...I guess when you grow up an Army brat with both parents who were officers(one still is) then join yourself it kinda irks you how stupid EA could be...But oh well excuse me as I finish knifing Vendi's walker

It irks me and I never joined the military (they wouldn't let me, else I'd already be a commissioned 2nd Lt. in the USA....probably going through Officer Basic, then Ranger before shipping to Iraq). The thing is that it's so darn obvious to ANYONE that 2nd LT comes before 1st LT that it makes no sense that they did this.

when i frist heard that 2nd comes before 1st I was like :S as well, it makes perfect sense the other way around :P I know it's not like that in reality but you can't really call them stupid for doing it that way since most of the game is fictional

The progression from 2nd Lieutenant to 1st Lieutenant is not the only reversal in Battlefield 2142, as the rank of Lance Corporal comes before Corporal in the majority of today’s militaries. I see nothing wrong with the game’s developer using a unique rank structure. Militaries have changed their structures throughout history, so it makes sense to me that there may be differences between modern versions and those chosen for the year 2142.
What I find peculiar is that both the European Union and Pan Asian Coalition use the same ranks. However, I understand that the developers needed to use a universal ranking structure, since a player’s soldier is interchangeable between the two factions.
