TG Servers and Northern Strike

Have the Admins come to a decision on whether or not we will run NS maps? It still seems like the second server doesn't get a whole lot of people even with the new city map rotation. Perhaps we can convert the second server to a NS Assault lines / Titan server to generate a little interest for it during the initial NS excitement?

The Titan is suppose to have improvements that will make it easier on lower end systems, if that is a concern.

Re: TG Servers and NS

We will likely be hosting the booster maps full-time of the second server to start out with.

Re: TG Servers and NS

I am excited about playing NS with TG. However, I get a bad ping to the Texas server which is hosting the city maps now. Plus, I was under the impression that I was not the only one. During the recent scrim, I was frequently checking the players' pings, and they appeared awfully high compared to our Virginia server.

I worry that the fact that NS will go onto the Texas server will discourage people from playing.

Forgive me for sounding selfish, but why not switch the Texas server over to another east coast server? Are the majority of supporting members not on the east coast?

awful idea. put the new booster maps that everyone doesn't have and titan that no one really likes on the same server that also has freakishly high pings? sounds like murder.

Re: TG Servers and NS

using the second server is the death knell for NS. I'll bet it's dead in two months. 2 weeks might even be a stretch for it.

Re: TG Servers and NS

I updated my profile, now you can see why I am excited about having it on the Texas server. I played in the beta, and I can tell you the new maps and toys are very fun (I don't think that comment violates the NDA).

Re: TG Servers and NS

lol poker...

yea, i think its either main server or nothing. See, the problem is, is that everyone wants to play with everyone. With a lot of SM's that can kick people off the server to make room for them to play with everyone, theres little need for a second server. As a SM, you see empty server and you see full server you can still join....which are you gonna join? NS can be incorporated in with vanilla. If you put it on a different server, hardly anyone will play on it.

So, imo, its either all or none. But like i said in another post, if we do decide to go for it, im sure most will pick it up so they can play with everyone here.

Re: TG Servers and NS

If there is a way to avoid all the problems we had with the boosters in BF2, I would be for putting them on the main server.

Re: TG Servers and NS

The problem with the boosters in BF2 was the very fact that not everyone had them. So, say you are a TG member, and you don't like the boosters or don't want to buy them, and you're happily playing on the main server and a booster map comes up. Well, then you are SOL, you will have to wait until a regular map comes back up.

The difference here is that as a ranked 2142 server, there are far more opportunities for pubbies to help fill a 2nd server. So, for those who want to play boosters, there will be a server just for you. For those who do not, there is a server just for you too.

Of course, this is largely dependent upon the performance of this server and how well the boosters end up being received by the community.

Re: TG Servers and NS

well. i've made my case that a second server will never be successful in the long run. I think if we split it like this, we'll have about 2 to 3 weeks of a semifilled second server and then everyone will just come back to the main server and lament that EA got it wrong.

while i understand that some people will not want to buy NS on TG, they're probably the people who aren't playing bf2142 much anyway. While it's not great to lose them, I think it's far better to improve our main server. I think if we make our main server an NS server that most people will shell out the 10 bucks to buy the booster.

I really don't believe that "one for you and one for you" is going to work. We here at TG want to play together and play with as many other TGers as possible. We'll all gravitate toward the same server no matter whether you make the second on mixed, titan, booster, city mapped, or whatever.

So, as snail said. All or nothing.

Re: TG Servers and NS

exactly...im all for seeing how 2 servers goes but as past experiences go, zoraster said it best. People gravitate toward one server where the most people are playing, whatever the flavor it is.
