Re: TG Servers and NS
I think this is the best decision. If we had Northern Strike on the main, every 45 minutes or so the server population would drop to half. And eventually we would have problems populating the server at all because people will be tired of getting kicked for the new maps. I think it's poor planning on EAs part. They should have included the new maps in the main title and just charged $10 more to avoid this scenario. On the other hand, I don't really understand people who have $1000 comps that won't fork over $10 for one of the best gaming franchises ever.

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike
I for one have already pre-orderd NS and look forward to playing it. The fact that you can play with the regular 2142 makes it much more appealing. When Ea put out the BF2-SF they did that all wrong, you can't play with the regular maps and such. At least this way you have the opportunity. I tend to agree about the computers.....$1000.00 cp's and won't spend $10? Whatever the community decides is good for me, especially being new and all, but I do believe that if the EEast Coast server carries NS there will not be a problem filling it.
Couldn't we just start a poll and see how many members will be buying NS?

We've tried forcing boosters onto the main server in the past and it simply didn't work.

That was BF2, if I recall correctly. You admins are forgetting that NS will work with Vanilla 2142!!

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike
Um, how will those without be able to play with those who do? When a NS map comes up, only NS players will be able to play, exactly like it was in BF2.

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike
bf2 boosters worked with vanilla too. But those without will get kicked when a NS map pops up. If you keep the rotation like 2 vannila's then a NS map it prolly wont be that big of deal. Theres enough pubbies + TGers that will get it to keep it going.

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike
So, those of us who don't or can't get NS are getting shafted? Yeah, yeah, I know what you're thinking: "What! It's only 10 bucks!" Sure. I don't have a problem with that. EA Link, paying online, small problem. And besides, if the majority of TG isn't going to have this right away, why shaft them by putting NS on the major server? Plus, pubbies who don't have NS may be put off by the fact that we're running NS if they are only get one round and are promply kicked because they don't have the booster. Honestly, we've got a second server laying around, USE IT! Make that the NS server until we can get a feel for the booster and make a more community-oriented decision for the main server. That said, I would like to see NS added to the VA server, but not for a while. Time man, what we need is some time to gauge this thing. Think of it like marriage, if you will. I'm sure you married guys can attest (I hope) that you thought hard before you popped the question. Similar situation, different circumstances. And if you do decide to slam us poor buggers without NS, at least give us some warning so we don't hop on to get our 'TG Fix' only to discover that we can't because of the booster.

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike
Valid points made, but what we could do is possibly have a timed message appear on the Main server about the 2nd running NS, and I think we could have a planned NS night so that interest will increase.

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike
I guarantee at the beginning the NS server will be full. Those people with NS will not be playing on servers without NS, so the timed message is going to fall on deaf ears. The BF2 booster packs actually did very well for a little while. They just didn't have any staying power. I really believe it was because most of them where all armour based maps and those just aren't that popular. Actually, generally they just weren't all that great.

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike
Yeah, I know what you mean about the maps. Take any of the vanilla 'armor' maps, Shuhia figuring prominently, and although you can get more about a platoon of tanks for each side along with some APCs and walkers, there's really no place to duke it out without coming near the UCBs. Thats' the problem, but if they had a map where you could spread out and have a straight up knock-down drag-out fight instead of sculking and sniping away, admittedly a tactic. Suez is better for this, but it's still much to constrained. Personally, I'd like to see some maps like back in 1942, as I recall there were some crazy armor maps and the terrian was open as all get out. That's where it's at, baby. Being in a 60-ton behemoth, seeing your mates in their tracks to either side, the enemy ahead, load AP rounds, and start beating!
Dude, I just had a crazy thought: What if they had a 128-person map, yadda yadda, all the trimmings that have been thought up when this idea has been presented before, but here's the kicker: Tanks. Lots of Tanks. APCs, sure. Battlewalkers, why not, can't hurt. Air? Definitely, lots of air too. But mainly, at least a COMPANY of Tanks on either side. Oh, yeah, that's where it's at. I can see it now, it would be glorious!
Twisting dogfights overhead, missiles arcing across the battlefield, the roar of Freedom's Thunder (Artillery, for those of you who don't watch the videos on military.com), and then, tremble at the approach of the armor. They square of, platoons forming up and executing manuevers, flanks, distractions, brave souls sacrificing themselves to give their comrades the opening they need to safeguard loved ones (waxing emotional, I know), the carnage! Another thing that would be awesome is if the carcasses of destroyed vehicles stayed on the battlefield. That Allied tank that just got rocked in front of your squad if meatbags? Take cover so the enemy that made your cover doesn't smoke you too. Chokepoints, constructed of dead vehicles, causing roadblocks until Demo teams can clear the way with explosives, all this and more.
Sorry about that, I kind of went off on a tangent, didn't I? Oops, my bad.playing off the TG server feels like we're playing 2142 on easy mode~Fehmart

I reiterate to start a poll and just find out where everyone stands. I would have done it myself, but either I can not or many years of abusing my brain have made me forget how........do you need to be an admin to start one?

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike
Guys we have been talking about this for weeks on many different threads. Can an admin please post some sort of poll so we can see how many are planning on getting NS or are willing to get NS. This argument keeps going around in circles and it is starting to hurt my brain.
