As stated before, we should have a poll to see how many of us are going to get/have NS and take it from there.

I know the Texas server is high ping for us Euro's, so I for one will not be playing NS on that server.

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike

I think using Server 2 to host Northern Strike is the most logical decision for Tactical Gamer. Both the Titan game mode and City Maps 24/7 configuration used on this server have been largely unpopular and received little support from the community, which leaves it unpopulated for extended periods of time. At the same time, Server 1 has been a complete success and changing its configuration seems unwise to me.

If our membership enjoys the new content available in Northern Strike and adopts it as a natural progression of Battlefield 2142, then Server 2 will become more popular. If not and the booster pack is seen as a failure, then Server 1 will remain the primary choice for most members. However, by having the two versions on separate servers, players are provided with a choice as to whether or not they want to play Northern Strike and will not be forced to leave either in the middle of a gaming session.

I also think hosting Northern Strike on Server 2 may help it finally gain a consistent player base, which would further help attract new players to the Tactical Gamer community.

You're forgetting that even if we LIKE the game mode, if the server isn't populated, then we'll go to the main server to play.

Also, our over-there friends will NOT be playing on server 2 due to lag, even if they LIKE the booster.

Putting it on server 2 will guarantee NS's death on TG. PERIOD. All this hype about how the natural progression will shift to server 2 if its a good booster is nonsense when the riding factor on which server to play in rides on which is ALREADY more popular. We go to where the players are. That's server 1.

Personally I'd MUCH prefer to play on server 2. Why? My ping is cut in HALF at least there compared to the VA server. Still, I know which one attracts more people, and that is server 1 and that's the server I choose to play on b/c of it.

Logically, NS, if it is to succeed at TG, needs to start out on the main conquest server.

To me the success of a server depends upon getting people to put it in their favorites list. If TGers can show up in force initially on the Northern Strike server, then I believe many people will add it to their favorites. I think it will be successful, but we shall see.

I think it'll be somewhat successful for two or three weeks -- maybe even at the expense of our main server -- and then fail completely and utterly.

I did not overlook this fact and am aware that players will choose to play on the more populated server regardless of whether or not they enjoy Northern Strike. This was quite evident with the former Titan server, as no matter how hard some members worked to promote this game mode it ultimately failed due to a low and inconsistent player base. I merely believe that Battlefield 2142’s success within Tactical Gamer is largely due to the popularity of its Conquest server and think it would be unwise to change its configuration to include something that would exclude players that do not have the booster pack.

I agree that the issues members experience on Server 2 is a concern, but that they should be addressed separately from the discussion about Northern Strike. If members from Europe were having trouble with Server 1, they would probably choose to play elsewhere, whether it hosted the booster pack or not.

I disagree and believe Northern Strike’s success will be determined by how well its content is received by the community and not which server hosts it.

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike

The thing is that our conquest server is so successful b/c of it's high ranking among all the other servers. It's WELL within the top 100 servers. Server 2 is around 20xx in the rankings. Last I looked server 1 was in 58th place. That's DARN good considering how many servers are out there.

I think that we'll still have the population even if we have NS maps and titan in the rotation. Its the server and its reputation that people come for, and if we change it up a hair they will gripe a bit at first, and then adapt.

It sounds as if you're scared to death of change, Chad. THat itself is something that can kill us. NS will die on TG if server 2 is the ONLY one of our servers to have it. NS will be adapted to AND thrive if it is put on server 1 and we, TG, make an effort to promote it. Server 2 will die anyway, no matter how we try. We've seen that in the past and no amount of trying will change that.

There's only one option: putting NS in the conquest server's rotation. And a few titan maps wouldn't hurt it at all, especially with the fixes for it from 1.2.

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike

It won't kill server 1. You're thinking that NS is going to be the end of the world. That's just hooey. What we DO know is that server 2 is never populated, no matter what we try.

So stop the whining about how NS is going to kill server 1. I HIGHLY doubt that'll be true, especially since we already know at least one in-house squad is going to be 100% supporting NS (the 9th), and probably others by a decent amount. Others will want to keep playing with us and cough up the $10 needed to play the NS maps.

Put it on server 2 and NO ONE will play it, whether they bought NS or NOT.

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike

Putting NS on the TX server is giving it a very unfair chance.
Putting NS on the main server is likely to decrease the main server's popularity.

Clearly we need a third option if we want to play NS and keep a popular main server.

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike

you're right cappy. He's not saying you put the conquest server on the second server. He's saying you make the NS Server the main server and to hell with having a vanilla server.

Put it on server two if you want, but it'll die just like every other second server will.

I really think you're giving NS an unfair chance at success if you do anything other than put it on the main server. If all you want is a couple of weeks of "hey, this map is kinda interesting" then put it on the second. If you want an addition to the game that will add maps and vehicles to an already (3-4 months after release) stale map rotation, then put it on the main server.

People will spend the money to buy the booster if the server they play on all the time uses it. If the server they play on all the time DOESN'T use it, few people will buy it except those who are a little bored and want to go pubbie raiding.
