I agree with Cappy as well.

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike
I still would like to see an admin put up a poll. Let's see where the members are with this as a whole. I think the server and the people playing in it will accept any change made, if at all. I personally do not care too much for the Titan maps, prefer the Conquest, but if the change was made to incorporate a coupl of Titan maps in the rotation I would not leave the server.....just keep playing. There are enough people out there that will be looking for a place to play NS, and I am sure other servers are having the same issue.
The release date is coming up shortly, how about a message on the server: "Tg will be hosting the NS booster on the following dates" or "next week". Run a trail week or something.
Having been through this with the other boosters in BF2 and BHD, it can be a difficult decision, the fact that you couldn't play the vanilla maps was really what caused the failure on those.
We really shouldn't want to leave anyone out, and I do not believe that anyone has that in mind. If the Texas server is that bad, can it be moved? With a better ping, it may have a chance. As stated by others earlier, we gravitate towards the servers that are populated.

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike
Id love to see NS maps on Server 1! As I would like a titan map or two! The current cycle needs some fresh air.
That beeing said... I can understand people who do not want to get the booster. I dont remember any community on top of my head that did ever fully support the BF2 boosters over extended amounts of time.

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike
I think most of it comes down to quality, not the $10. If the boosters are great people will buy and play them! If they're big, boring maps like Armored Fury was for BF2, then people won't buy or play them. I think it's ok to wait and see... we don't need to decide a TG policy until we really need to....

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike
Well, my problem is this, Whiskey: the new booster pack probably won't be much fun outside of TG. I played the beta, and it was kind of a big pubfest. It's not much fun like that. But I think if you put TG behind it, those maps become a lot of fun (at least all the maps EXCEPT the bridge map. WAY too much armor).
So I don't think we'll be able to really tell whether the booster is fun or not until it's played in the TG way with a full server by TG regulars.

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike
mmm.. that's a fair point.
I guess I wasn't clear enough explaining my logic: It will be on server 2 to start with, right? I'm just thinking that we all want to play what's the most fun - so if it's truely a good expansion pack, word of mouth will get out and more and more TGers will pick it up. At that point, after it's been proven to be good enough, we might think about moving it to server 1...
I just think most people aren't interested because of EA/Dice's history of lackluster boosters, not because of the 10-bucks it costs.

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike
well, i agree with you. We'll want to play what's most fun. But I think there's a priority in what makes the game fun for us:
1) Playing with and against as many good team players as possible
2) Playing fun maps
So I think that ultimately server 2 will end up just as empty as before. It might have a boost for the first two-three weeks of release, but then people will migrate back to where everyone is playing.
In the end, TGers want to consolidate. If there are 20 TGers on Server 1 and 20 on Server 2, they'll want to combine to make 40 TGers on Server 1 because this makes the game a lot more fun.
People at first will use server 2 to check out the goliath, the new maps, but it won't be serious TG play. It'll be "check out the new toys." Only by putting Northern Strike on the main server will you get legitimate team play action for the booster pack.

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike
Hmm, with all this talk of how the second server is dead and putting NS on it will ensure the death of NS for TG, I have to wonder: do you all really want NS? Take a look at Titan, there weren't enough TGers enterested, so that kind of died. So that means NS is going the same way?
I love this: "TG prefers Server 1; All the TG people go to Server 1; TGers get fed up with the second server and go back to the Conquest server!"
Well now, maybe there's a problem, but it might not be what ya'll think it is. Is the problem with the server, the game, or YOU? If you don't want to play without your buddies, and they're all on the Conquest server, why not invite them to the other server? For that matter, send invites to everyone on your buddy list to join you at a particular date; Announce you'll be on the server at such and such a time and date like FatKid tried to do with Titan Night; Arrange scrims on it; And lastly, SEED THE DAMN THING! I know it can get boring, but if you have a solid core of TGers seeding the server, the pubbies WILL come. It's only a matter of time.
On that note, I have another arguement for not putting NS on the 'Main Server'. Recruitment. I know we're not a clan, but we do need recruits, if only to make Supporting Members to pay for upkeep. Now, knowing EA's spotty history with boosters, and experiencing my own dissappointment when the BF2 boosters came out and one of my favorite servers switched to include those maps (I didn't have the booster, to those who are not possessed of intelligence and logic), so I was pretty bummed. Consider that a lot of people will wait to see how the booster plays and performs, and that leaves a lot of territory that TG can 'farm', so to speak. If we can get a plethora of people to join up using the vanilla server, then we can see how NS does and consider changing the VA server to include NS, by which time it will have 'aged' a bit and probably another patch will come out to fix the inevitable bugs. By then, most people will have hopefully acquired NS, and we can gather recruits using an NS-enabled VA server that will be popular to a majority of people.
Whew. That rant was rather long, but I hope it was worth it. Anyway, that's just my $0.02playing off the TG server feels like we're playing 2142 on easy mode~Fehmart

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike
50AE's got the idea. You just got to seed the server. In the first month of 2142 me and Sarc seeded the titan server almost everyday in the evenings. It got populated usually in an hour or two (usually not so full). But then after a while we just got tired of seeding it everyday and it only got used on fridays there after.
So preaty much you have to seed it yourself if you want it to thrive, instead of moving it to server 1 and hoping someone else seeds it for you.
Honestly, I would find it annoying to have to buy a booster just to play on the TG server. Although if the titan to conquest ratio was high then I would gladly buy the booster.

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike
You need 10 people to seed a server (although i admit around 8 or 9 that other people will start to fill in). Finding that many TGers willing to sit for anywhere between 10 minutes to an hour and a half just to start a game that might remain half full for its entire duration is difficult.

This is exactly my point. People will be willing to spend the time and energy in order to play NS for the first 2-3 weeks. But after that people just aren't going to be willing to do it. At this point, it'll die. This doesn't really say much about the strength of NS -- it could be awesome -- but after the initial newness is over, people will rather be able to start playing in an instant rather than an hour.
How absurd is it really to expect people to wait around for half an hour just for the possibility of a game when there's one on the other server?

Re: TG Servers and Northern Strike
heres the deal either NS succeeds and bf2142 lives or it doesn't and it dies thats the point im at. 2142 needs these maps so badly it's not even funny.
