Declaring death upon 2142
Well well.... 1.2 is out... and EA didnt listen to any people that told them the Supports new Infantry scanner is totally overpowered.
Its just like the Vehicle Scanner, it DOES have a smaller radius but its still too big. Its perfect to monitor any choke points in this choke point heavy game without even needing close to be there.
Sure we had Otus Drone and Pulsemeter - But the first needs a Squad of 3 players and the second one needs you to put away your weapon AND have a recon with you to get minimap scans. The new scanner can be used by every lone wolfing supporter to camp out choke points without having to rely on anyone.
Goodbye to the days of effective flanking. Goodbye to the times of sneaking and breaking thru.
While I loved how EA balanced the stuff out to this point including the rest of the new unlocks - this one was uncalled for and breaks the game.
Over n out to the Unreal Fragfest named BF2142

Re: Declaring death upon 2142
Wait...I thought the Infantry Scanner was added in Northern Strike, not the Patch for vanilla 2142. Am I wrong?

Well if someone unlocks it in Northern Strike they can use it in vanilla 2142

iirc, ns unocks are available on vanalla, even as squad upgrades for those that dont have ns.
this particular unlock is clearly game changing for TGers. the average pubber bearly looks at their minimap. i know im looking at it for situational awareness every few seconds.

Oh, uh, right, I knew that.
Anyways, I think you may have a point, eventually you won't be able to leave your base without being spotted and blasted by half a dozen sniper bastards with decoys so you can't find them. YAY!

I feel that it isn't the death of BF 2142 but rather, all the more reason for me not to venture out onto the pubbies for long.

Re: Declaring death upon 2142
Play 2142 for what it is, an arcade action game, the game is fun to play but have lots of balance issues. DICE is going for the mass market that like "Cool" things even if it breaks the game balance. I just wish the added options to switch things off so TG could decide what to use, but the ranked system killed that.
If you want to see tactics and other great TG style play switch to POE.

Re: Declaring death upon 2142
So how large is the radius actually?
I'm just asking because people said that the Scanner and UAV ruined flanking and manuever in BF:2 but we learned to work around that. Just because it makes flanking more difficult doesn't mean it wont have other applications, such as laying ambushes.
Also how big is the actual scanner and can it be EMP'd?

Re: Declaring death upon 2142
doesn't matter man, now everyone is going to abuse the support kit and the recon kit now. why is EA so stupid that they didn't even think about kit balance????

Does the scanner disappear once its owner is dead (or soon after)?

Re: Declaring death upon 2142
so each scanner is 15-20 meters? i guess they will simply place more than one to get a better coverage.(oh man, this is BAD)

Re: Declaring death upon 2142
EA has their "no nerf" policy - once it hits the game it doesnt get nerfed. Yea sure it doesnt look that big but if you like place it on the front of toll you are able to scan the full choke point from left to right.
Additionally ALL Squads are able to see the scan - its not limited to your squad like the other 2 wallhack items. Having 3-4 scanners going it not unusual and with the mostly narrow maps you can guess where that ends.
The scanner stays in game when you die for quite some time like mines.
I abused the scanner today as lonely support on some pub. Put scanner down with my clark supporter into some back ally and clark down everyone as soon as they were entering my territory.
Well maybe I sound a bit extreme today ,) We will see how this overpowered item will have influenced the playstyle in some weeks
