First, it's only 10 bucks, second: you get the NS awards really quickly so that means: lots of unlock points! Also, the new maps are really worth buying, especially Port Bavaria is really nice in my opinion. The new vehicles are okay too, I like driving the Speeder but I don't think they're really awesome or something, they are more like a nice addition to the existing ones. And last but not least; the second server of TG is running Northern Strike and it's quite populated at the moment so that's a plus too!
Oh and some of the unlocks are cool too, I had liked some more new weapons but the unlocks are okay. The extra rockets for the assault are really nice and I like the shock absorber boots and IDS infantry scanner alot too.

It will never be available retail, so don't hold your breath.

Actually I heard about one of the BF2 boosters being retail in Finland or something like that. Anyway, just some dim recollection of a possible flawed totalbf2 thread.

I wish i could get all my games online...I always lose the disk or cd key, but if i d/l it i can simply download it again if i need to re-install. Which is why i like Steam and EA link. Buy and download without ever leaving my chair...ahhh i love being lazy. And direct2drive is getting better and hosting more games. For major games i still get retail though ie. Crysis, Stalker.

FYI, the BF2 boosters are available for retail for $20.

    I'll think about it.

I wish they would. Admittedly I haven't been around the last few days due to work and family obligations, but the lag even with a decent ping was pretty bad on our second server.

For those of you who have played in the last 1 to 3 days, has the lag gotten better/worse? I know I was getting pretty frustrated with it the last time I played NS.

    Hey Dea,
I played last night for a couple of hours and it did not seem bad. It had it's moments, but not bad. The server did reset and sent everyone home for a minute or two. It also filled right back up.

I get about a 35ms ping on server 1 and a 70ms ping on server 2 so it's not ideal but not bad either. The real problem is my own hardware which can run vanilla flawlessly but starts to chug here and there on those massive NS maps.

    Re: Northern Strike Released

I don't think that is the reason we are all experiencing lag. I don't believe it is video lag on the client-side, but I think it is server-side. I cleaned out and defragged my computer the other day so I get the best performance out of my machine possible tonight and I am going to try to monitor FPS tonight to see which it is.

Some of the maps in BF2142 are just as large but do not behave this way, that is why I don't suspect it is video lag.

    Re: Northern Strike Released

I can only speak for myself but I can tell you it's client side lag for me. Happens in wide open areas when a lot of stuff is on screen, especially when there is an orbital strike happening. That's not server lag.

I also have a bad ping to server 2, I'm in Massachusetts. I get a great ping to server 1, but server 2 is usually 140-150ms.

    Re: Northern Strike Released

I get a sub 20 ping to the Northern Strike server and it lags heavily. I don't think it is client side because the amount of lag escalates for everyone on the server and then the server crashes. I think taking it down to 48 players would alleviate some of the problems.
