Re: Northern Strike Released
I pre-loaded it last night and had a little time to kill before school this morning and set up a LAN game to check out the maps. I think Port Bavaria will be a freakin blast. There's only one choke point, but it's as wide as the map. The defending team also has a "pod rack" for rapid response to flags. That hovercraft is my new favorite vehicle I think. I can circle-strafe boxes already and I can't wait to get some TG member in my sights soon!

Re: Northern Strike Released
Well, luckily i have off of work today. I just did a quick run through of the maps on a local server and i must say...these maps are 10 times better than vannila imo. Whoever said they are chokepoint heaven needs to reevaluate that. The only chokepoint on all 3 maps is the first flag on the bridge map. And even thats not that bad because you get a friggin goliath to make the push with and once you take that flag, there's endless ways to go.
I love the port map. You get 4 APC's and its gotta be so cool watchin your whole team just launch up to the port flags about 100 meters up. Great overall design.
The night map is also very cool and allows for TONS of flanking. Snipers, beware my rockets.
As for the vehicles, the goliath is just what you think it is. A slow moving fortress of firepower. You can spawn on it and it can heal and resupply nearby troops. The driver gets a shotgun like main gun and a motion mine launcher for vehicles. 2 heavy gunner spots up front and 2 machine gun spots in the back. Good luck to any hopeful recons trying to rdx it. This thing is going to be a BEAST to take down but it can be done. It moves friggin SLOW, but thats good considering how beastly it is.
The hover bike thing the PAC get is also very cool. VERY manuverable. You really need 2 people though as the driver's main guns are only so-so. But once you get a gunner and you get some communication going....look out. The gunner gets a mini grenade launcher that looks like a mini version of the APCs mortars. Not quite as deadly but still effective. You also get a TV missile for those hit and run tactics on armor. It seems very effective but its really easy to take down if you can get some fire on it, which balances it out.
I cant wait to play it tonight with TG to really get a feel for it but overall i really think it will catch on not only here but with the entire 2142 community. The whole booster (maps, vehicles, unlocks) are all VERY well designed and balanced. This booster, IMO, is 100 times better than the boosters for BF2 and imo, the maps are better than any of the vannila maps. The vannila maps are very chokepoint heavy, while NS maps are very wide open, yet with plenty of cover, allowing for MANY tactics. You can really let your SL mind go nuts in these maps. Cheers Dice. Very very well done.

Re: Northern Strike Released
Well, now that it is out I feel more free to discuss my discoveries from the beta.
1. Be very careful in the Hachimoto (hover bike) the gunner seat is EXTREMELY vulnerable. I found myself dying quite a lot, especially if the driver stopped moving. APMs take out the driver, and motion mines typically follow the vehicle and kill the gunner.
2. The TV missile on the Hachimoto is awesome. Just make sure you have good communication with the driver. Once the missile is away, you control it like the gunship TV missile, so the driver should pull away immediately.
3. The belly of the Goliath is its weakest spot. I believe 5 RDX under it will destroy it (I never tried this myself, but heard others talk about it). The rail gun is not real friendly to it either.

Any final word from the admins whether or not this will be on one/both or any of our servers? I will buy and download it tonight if TG will be hosting.

Re: Northern Strike Released
This will be on the 2nd server. We'll try to mix in both game modes if possible.
