Assault Lines Mode: Time for a discussion
I have been meaning to open up this discussion for awhile. The assault lines mode kind of blurs the line of attacking a UCB. If the server is not full (full server is debatable also), it is in the best interest of a squad to be in the "UCB" if the final PAC flag is about to be capped, so they can quickly cap the unlocked PAC base. Now, here is my question to all of you: Should we remove the rule against attacking the UCB during the assault lines mode? I have heard people talking about this over VOIP every night I have been on since the release of NS.

Re: Assault Lines Mode: Time for a discussion
While playing the port map the other night, we had a few smacktards stealing our walkers from the UCB and then camping the UCB with said walkers before the UCB was unlocked. We'd spawn and die in a matter of seconds. I say the opposing force should not be allowed to occupy the UCB until they unlock it and if/when they do unlock it and it becomes locked again, they should clear out and not return until it is once again unlocked.
Also, no stealing the Hachimoto, the buggy rule should not apply to them as acceptable means of escape for a recon destroying assets.

Yeah it's really annoying if the enemy steal your walkers on Port Bavaria... I agree with Lorax, they should not be allowed to get in the UCB before it gets unlocked.

Re: Assault Lines Mode: Time for a discussion
The problem I saw is when we cap all flags and unlock the UCB and commence the attack and the enemy unlocks a back flag therefore locking the UCB. People don't even notice it's been relocked.

Re: Assault Lines Mode: Time for a discussion
Well, as the admins are discussing it, I see it as that we should follow the rules the way thay are. Many of the people that are in the NS server some times are pubs looking for a place to play and do not follow the rules. We are lucky if they even read them...The good thing is that the server gets populated.
I agree with the fact that they should not steal the vehicles before the flag is capped. In the same respect, even if you notice that the flag is once again locked....you have to fight your way out of it. The commander and SL's should be communicating and watching the map. The commander will know if the flag is unlocked or not and when it changes. They should then recall the SL's and have them recall thier squads.

Re: Assault Lines Mode: Time for a discussion
The other real problem area is on the nighttime map where the UCB to the south is so close to 2 different flags. You get over-eager people firing directly into the UCB at spawning people. That is a tough situation as well but I think people need to back off and let them spawn and at least make their way out of the UCB before engaging.

Re: Assault Lines Mode: Time for a discussion
I agree that no one should fire on a UCB, but with is it unfair if one or two people camp the UCB when there's one flag left to capture before it unlocks? They shouldn't fire on unless fire upon though.

Re: Assault Lines Mode: Time for a discussion
Yep, pretty much what Boulderdash said is what happened a couple of days ago. We were on PB and the PAC base was unlocked, so me and NewGenesis rush in (me first, of course, he arrived about 10 seconds later) and start to cap the flag. NATURALLY, one of the enemy caps a back flag, so the Home Base is stuck at neutral. We chill for a couple minutes, kill a few people who come up, then I head out and tell NewGenesis to hold his position, thinking it wouldn't take long to recap the flags (boy was I wrong. And no, I wasn't SL). Anyhoo, NG gets wasted, and guess what: We didn't get the cap. As always. Except for one time on Liepzig, which is how I have the Assault Lines pin. WOOT!

Re: Assault Lines Mode: Time for a discussion
This does certainly present a new challenge for the admin team.
While we are currently discussing how to approach this issue amongst ourselves, and have not yet come to a consensus, I want to make it clear that if anyone is camping the 'final base' before it has been unlocked, or stealing equipment from it, please just let one of the admins know and that player will be removed. Flagrant cases are easily enforced. It's the borderline cases, some of which have been outlined in this thread, which are more difficult.A policy of freedom for the individual is the only truly progressive policy. -F.A. Hayek

Re: Assault Lines Mode: Time for a discussion
Until a ruling is made, my rule of thumb will be to only attack the UCB when it is unlocked, if and when it becomes locked again, it's time to pack up, pull out and go somewhere else.

Re: Assault Lines Mode: Time for a discussion
It doesn't hurt to drop a beacon off back there while you are retreating. You can always use a nearby flag as a spawn point until it is time.

I don't pay much attention to the in-game voices, I only pay attention to VoIP and sound effects, too much "Enemy Spotted" "Sniper Spotted" "Sniper Spotted" "Enemy Spotted" "Enemy Spotted" "Sniper Spotted" "I need a ride" for me...
