Because they are cheap. They don't want to spend $50 for a glorified BF2 mod.
Also, a lot of people don't want a futuristic game. They prefer more modern-times stuff.umm... hello?

2142 is actually crap compared to BF2. BF2 has perfection. While 2142 is a 'nade spamming fragfest deathmatch turd hugging lovers dream. I don't know, I play it for some reason, I like certain maps, love Verdun, been playing that since the beta days.
BF2 has/had better maps IMO. Although I like certain weapons in 2142, but I'm sick of rocket whoring, a whole squad of Assaults, that do nothing but rocket. Since they are so busy rocketing everything that moves, their teammates lye on the ground waiting for a nice revive that won't happen either. (Like Me). BF2142 is nothing more than an expensive mod of BF2, if you ask me.
The kits, vehicles and maps are different. Nothing else is.
I wouldn't mind BF2142 if it were actually fun to play. I constantly have instances of unloading an entire clip at someone, hitting them upwards of 5 times, and not dropping them. And while I'm on the subject of the weapons, they aren't fun to use. None of them sound powerful or 'feel' like mankillers when you fire them. Turn on BF2, pull out your AK or your Jackhammer and shoot it, you'll feel like a digital FPS God with your boomstick in hand. 2142 weapons sound as weak as they actually are.
Maybe if there were a PR mod for 2142 it would be better. I doubt it though.

I actually enjoyed your rant, Undead. Fortunately, I do not fit under the Assualt/Medic stereotype. It's my squadmates first, then teammates, then badguys. But of course I have to secure the area before rezing someone, or at least making sure we are in some sort of cover.
There is nothing worse than getting killed right after a rez.
Actually, I find the weapons pretty powerful when used correctly. I explain the weak sound with advanced firing mechanisms that use the explosions more efficiently. I explain the weakness by the advanced armor in the future.umm... hello?

In my opinion it lacks squad based tactics, maps are horrible and the pace of play is way to fast. For a futuristic combat game there are a lot of things the game lacks that are present in todays military that you would think would be in this game. Lack of customization for admins and communities. Unfortunately I waisted my money when I bought this game.

Same here Drizzid. I got it and had some fun rounds on the TG server, but I found it way to fast-paced to have any fun with advanced squad tactics; mostly run n' gun your way to a flag and take it. BF2 creates a slower pace game where intricate plans can be put into play based on realistic weapons and vehicles, unlike an APC mortar spam down the middle in 2142.

I like the faster pace of play. I have both, but only play 2142. I like that it has more of a focus on infantry rather than helo and planes like vanilla bf2. I tried pr and poe, but found them both too slow for my taste.

I for one wish the majority of people were playing bf1942. WW2 > ALL

I still have fun playing it, I just gripe alot, don't mind it if I do. Its nothing more than getting annoyed. I still think there are more "bs" moments though in 2142 than in BF2. Oh man, the damn hit detection is what it is probably.
I know what would make me happy. A 2142 remake of sharqi, or karkand. I'd buy two of each.|TG-12th|Undead

The main reason I don't play much is because A) the maps are just too small to allow any maneuvering and B) I hate the fact that everyone knows where everyone is... Conversely those are the main reasons I love PoE2.
