Thoughts to seed the NS Server?
So it is no secret that the NS server sits mostly empty. And certainly this thread isn't started to be in any way critical of the BF admins here at TG whom I know do a lot of largely thankless work trying to create and maintain the environment that we all love.
But, it seems a waste to have a server sitting idle 95% of the time. Once it gets going it fills up, but the problem is every single day it seems it needs to be seeded over again by a group of TG just to get it started. My thought was this: mix two popular vanilla maps into the rotation in order to seed the server. Heck even one would do it. Put Cerbere Landing in there along with the three NS maps, or perhaps Tunis Harbor. Use that popular vanilla map to seed the server, and then even though you'd lose a few folks who didn't have NS when the server changed, you'd still keep a core who could keep it populated and running. I'm not swearing up and down that this is the 'answer', but surely we can try something different?

Re: Thoughts to seed the NS Server?
We had it set on all infantry maps for a while and it still didn't get action. Seeding it isn't the trouble. That can be done by a group of people every night with ease. The problem is that it crashes within an hour or two of seeding and all the effort was for nought.

Re: Thoughts to seed the NS Server?
Well, i know that servers arnt cheap to run, set up or anything, however, i think that if the stability and ping rates cant be resolved, maybe shut down the server untill a new one can be set up, at a location were we will be able to have people on it.
Just a random comment based on bommandos. |

Re: Thoughts to seed the NS Server?
I agree with Bommando that the instability of the Dallas server is the real problem. Northern Strike seems to draw plenty of players and this server could probably develop a decent player base with the small number of servers hosting this booster pack. The trouble is the fact that, as soon as the server fills and the rounds start to get interesting, it inevitably crashes and everyone heads off to play somewhere else.
Until the technical issues are resolved, the chances of this server being successful do seem rather bleak. |

Re: Thoughts to seed the NS Server?
Personally, I don’t mind the crashing all that much. Quick rejoin is no problem, servers usually get enough back and seed up fast. My issue is with the random lag spikes. These turn me in to an eight year old girl. I tuck my thumb under my palm and away from the "v" key and have a frustratingly pathetic bitchfest. Worst part is that I'll still be pinging the server at 30-40.
Of course I am never killed legitimately in this situation, every death of mine would be avoided if not for the lag spike. Every missed shot is blamed on a spike. If I stub my toe getting a beer to nurse my nerves, sneaky ass lag spike got me...wireless. Venting + My opinion

Re: Thoughts to seed the NS Server?
I volunteer to help seed the needy-empty NS server that needs a companion in these dark and lonely times.

Re: Thoughts to seed the NS Server?
Crux, feel free to grab some of the 9th guys if you need some help seeding the server. We've recently taken a renewed interest in the NS maps and most of us would probably be more than happy to help out.
Just say when, and I'll form a posse. Well...don't really say "when." Say when as in what time. Not really "What time" though. I mean like "Meet me on the server at 7:00PM EDT." Unless that's not the real time you want to meet, in which case say the real time. Which would be a time on your clock, not the literal words "the real time." Bah! You know what I mean.

Re: Thoughts to seed the NS Server?
See this thread about a possible Northern Strike night. But I agree, mix up the maps a bit, even with the occasional (or should I say predictable) crash, it couldn't hurt to see how a rotation with vanilla and NS maps might work out...
