Re: Starting a New inhouse squad
There are a lot of things that revolve around being an SM. The SMs you see here in our forums and in-game are the ones that pay for everything within the community. We provide SMs with additional services, support and goodies whenever we can as a way of saying thanks to the people that pay for the servers that you enjoy for free.
The gameplay and access to most of the TG servers do not require SM status, that is a HUGE benefit that non-SMs get and shouldn't be overlooked.
As far as "everyone easily following of what others say, because they are admins or one of the high members of the community", that's a pretty offensive statement. There isn't a single admin here that wasn't an SM first. People that are willing to help support the community show a level of dedication and commitment to the community that is a first-step in becoming an admin. Let me also make sure it's clear that you can not BUY your way into becoming an admin, but being an SM IS a pre-requisite for consideration.

Re: Starting a New inhouse squad
:: hissing whisper ::
Pssst...Apoph...I'll pay ya nine bucks a month for one of those sweet-looking Admin ribbon thingies. I think it'll make me look all suave and debonair. That tag'll make me an instant chick-magnet. Chicks dig guys with "Battlefield Admin" ribbons over their avatars.
I mean, yeah, I bought my way into the 9th MID, but I didn't find any fake friends there...only a gaggle of laid-back guys who get along well. Sorry...but it just doesn't appeal to my vanity to have REAL people in my squad. I'd rather pay for a bunch of fakers who are only out to make a name for themselves under a Clan tag like "Syk0_K1LL4z". I'm sure it'll look great on my resume when I'm ready to take on the challenges of life-after-school.
I need more status than just being a contributing member of an in-house squad. I need to be an ADMINISTRATOR! That's like, the pentultimate level of snobbish aristocracy you can achieve. Not to mention the little mind-control button that lets me censor everything people say here.
Oh sure, I'd have to listen to a lot of complaints by members. I'd probably even have to help solve them (Boooorrrrriiiiiinnnnnggg!).
I'd have to interrupt my gaming time in order to kick disruptive players from servers (OMG! I gotta boot another bunny-hopping teamkiller? Geez, these TG guys are lame! Why can't they just deal with his elite skills?).
I'd probably have to do that often, which would make my own scores suffer (Which is, of course, all I care about.).
Yeah, just like the comic books, I could only use my powers for "good" but hey, just cuz I can't abuse my powers doesn't mean I don't want the usually unnoticed and under-appreciated privilege of being an Admin.
I'd have to watch my mouth and mind my manners (My mom might see me typing out swear words with weird symbols to avoid the language filter and ground me again), but hey...that little ribbon thing under my name would definitely match my sig...and my ego would simply adore it.
Did I mention the chicks at the mall would be impressed too? Oh yeah baby...score!
So whaddaya say? Can I shell out nine bucks a month to rent one of them there nametags? All those responsibilities aside, I think it'd be pretty sweet.|TG-9th| Prophaniti

Re: Starting a New inhouse squad
I saw this guy the other day wearing this tag he proposed. He was kicked, I dunno if it was the auto-kick for a SM or an admin saw him. Has anyone else seen this?

Actually, I thought of going the $80 for a year route, but thought "hey, why not pay monthly and give TG the extra $20 or $30 that I would otherwise have saved."

PayPal is simple and easy. You can deposit funds into your account after verification (tie bank account, type PayPal deposit amounts, verify). And it's secure and used in many online transactions.
$80 a year is better than monthly, but I have yet to scrounge $80 to pay off a year yet. Back to the $9 a month payment... Hmm...maybe Prophaniti might like the shiny bottle caps I have stashed in my room...

Re: Starting a New inhouse squad
Yea same here, I turned mine off when I saw the smoke poofing out of it, I freaked out!
On a more serious note. Becoming a member of an "In-house" squad doesnt give you any more authority over any player than what you have now (unless you've been promoted to Admin). You really shouldnt care about the "In-house" squads, hell, I cant give a rat's as$ about them (no disrespect ofcourse), sure ive thought "I wonder what it would be if im in the 7th, or 3rd?" But the truth is, I like em all so I decide to be myself, play with every member of this community, whether hes a 3rd or a 7th or a 9th. I think thats what you should do first, play with everybody and once you find an in-house squad you REALLY like, then dedicate yourself to become a supporting member.
Oh BTW, if you think "PayPal" is complicated, then im extremely suprised your still alive and breathing.
My 2 cents......

Re: Starting a New inhouse squad
ha! One has to wonder whether the OP can walk and chew gum at the same time as well.

In all seriousness, I would suggest the OP go back and reread the primer and SOPs again, and - should you feel the need to become a member of an in-house squad - take a serious look at the Irregulars. They play a vital role here at TG, one that is never overlooked or underestimated. So please pay them the same amount of respect as you would any other member of TG, regardless of team affiliation, administrative status, or SM status.

Re: Starting a New inhouse squad
All right. I've been reading enough of the past two pages of posts to finally step forward and make a serious contribution.
I started playing BF2142 back in December, and joined up with the TG group in late January/early February. Before too long, I got fed up with being kicked from what I felt was the best server in BF2142 to make room for a supporting member, so I became a supporting member. I only intended to be one for a month. That became four months now.
I joined up with the Irregulars because I liked the idea of being part of a group. The 9th and the 7th were the two primary in house squads for 2142 at the time (the 3rd had not been formed yet). I met Sc1ence, WaffleHouseChef, Saboteur, Fehmart, and a number of others. Some of those same people passed through the Irregulars and moved on to a different IHS.
History lesson over, and now to my point. Please do not disregard the Irregulars so quickly. They perform a vital role in the TG community. Think of them as (among many other things) a half-way house between prospective supporting members and the more dedicated in house squads. There is a list of all the former Irregulars, and one can see that a good number of the core BF2 and BF2142 players passed through that group at one point.
I know for a fact that when the in house squads are looking to recruit, one of the first places they look are within the ranks of the Irregulars. Why? The Irregulars are a great place to sharpen skills, develop teamwork, and establish one's self as part of the overall TG community. You could be the best solo player in the game with a 200:1 kill/death ratio, Brigadier General, all the unlocks, etc etc. However, in house squads look for more than just stats. Your need to play in a group well. Maturity, attitude and how well your personality will fit into the current members count just as much as technical skills.
I still have strong ties to the Irregulars. The 3rd SFD has formed a BFCL league team in combination with some members from the Irregulars. I like and respect the leadership of the Irregulars. Running an in house squad is hard work! It takes time, attention, and effort. In house squads are afforded resources that cost money. It's only fair that being a supporting member is required. If an individual wants to get something, it's only fair to give back to this community that has already given so much away and freely. I know what my time is worth to me. I would only wager that the time of those who work behind the scenes here is just as valuable.
I'll get down off my soapbox now.|TG-42nd| Damonte

Re: Starting a New inhouse squad
Well said.. The Irregulars are a VERY important part of Tactical Gamer. As you said, several in-house squads have been formed as a direct result of their experience with the Irregulars. The Irregulars also provide an EXCELLENT training ground for new players unfamiliar with how TG works as a whole and gives those players valuable and worthwhile experience.
The list of former Irregulars should speak for itself.
